The Unknown Cave of the Unown

   Mitch and Typhlosion make their way down a thin forest path as dark storm clouds loom over top of them. " The map says that Mahogany Town is just a few miles outside this forest," he says as a large raindrop falls from the sky and lands on his head. More raindrops begin to fall from the sky as the storm begins and the two of them desperately look around for shelter. " Ty, Ty, Losion, Ty," it shouts whilst pointing towards a cave among the trees. " That cave isn't even on the map, but it's our only option right now," he says as they quickly rush inside it, grabbing some sticks along the way so they can start a fire inside the cave.

   " Flamethrower," Mitch says as Typhlosion uses the attack on the wood they gathered, creating a campfire. " Now to wait out the storm," he says before sensing a presence behind him. He quickly turns around to see................. a floating E with an eyeball. " Un, Unown, Un, Un," it mumbles as Mitch searches for his Pokédex and Typhlosion curiously sniffs at the mysterious creature. " Unown, the Symbol Pokémon, a Psychic-type, this Pokémon is shaped like ancient text characters. Although research is ongoing, it is a mystery as to which came first, the ancient writings or the various Unown." " Un, Un, Un," it cries in a friendly tone as thousands of other Unown float out of the darkness with friendly looks on their faces. " Well, I'm glad you're not mad that we came into your home uninvited," Mitch says with a chuckle as a B shaped Unown approaches Typhlosion. " Nooowwwn," it grumbles as it gets a confidently look in its eye. Typhlosion eagerly grins back at it and ignites its neck flame. " Well, I guess we need to train some more before our Gym battle in Mahogany Town and our full battle with Joe at the Lake of Rage, so yeah, let's battle," he shouts as the rest of the Unown float away to give Typhlosion and the B shaped Unown a large enough area to fight in.

  " Start us off with Shadow Claw," Mitch orders whilst Typhlosion's right paw becomes engulfed in a shadowy aura. " Sioooooooooonnn," it shouts as it tries to slash Unown, but it dodges at the last second. " Nooooooooooown," Unown shouts as it fires a much smaller Unown, that is made of pixelated blue energy, from its eye. " Tyyyyyyyyyyy," it cries as the Hidden Power Water strikes it on the right shoulder and explodes. As Typhlosion rubs its slightly hurt shoulder, Unown takes the opportunity to fire off another Hidden Power Water. " I guess what I saw in the Pokédex is true: Unown can only learn Hidden Power," he thinks before giving Typhlosion a command, " Avoid it and use Flamethrower!" Typhlosion quickly sidesteps out of the Hidden Power's way and, " Tyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy," shoots the medium sized fire stream from its mouth. " Nooooooooooooooown," it screeches as the attack hits it and slams it against the roof of the cave. It falls to the cave floor and weakly mumbles, " Unnn," as a spiral forms in its eye. Mitch quickly takes a Max Revive out of his bag and uses it to heal the defeated Unown before looking around and seeing that a lot of the other Unown look like they want to battle him too. " Let's do it than," he says as a S shaped Unown floats down to face Typhlosion.

   A montage of Mitch and his Pokémon battling multiple Unown is shown. Typhlosion takes a Hidden Power Rock from the S shaped Unown before defeating it with Lava Plume and then battles a Z shaped Unown followed by a W shaped Unown, defeating the former with Flame Charge and Aerial Ace after narrowly avoiding a Hidden Power Ground and defeating the latter with Shadow Claw after being struck twice by its Hidden Power Flying. Forretress takes a Hidden Power Fire from a R shaped Unown, remains conscious thanks to Sturdy, and then knocks the Unown out with Bug Bite. Quagsire struggles against a T shaped Unown that knows Hidden Power Grass after missing two Trailblazes back to back, but eventually gets its head back in the game and defeats it with an Critical Hit Ice Punch. Aipom clashes with a G shaped Unown and the match ends in a draw after a collision of Shock Wave and Hidden Power Ice. A seemingly overconfident Pupitar takes on 4 O shaped Unown at the same time and manages to defeat all 4 of them at the same time by using Hyper Beam while spinning in a circle.

  The E shaped Unown that greeted Mitch and Typhlosion ( who is currently resting in its Poké Ball) when they first entered the cave floats a few feet in front of Mitch as he takes a Safari Ball out of his pocket. " While I don't plan to use any of my Kanto Pokémon in my Mahogany Town and Lake of Rage battles, I know they need all the training they can get if I'm going to use them in the Johto League Tournament, so here goes nothing! I choose you," he shouts whilst throwing the Safari Ball. " Ta, Pony, Ponyta, Ta," Mitch's Ponyta brays as it lands on the cave floor. " Fire Spin," he commands as Ponyta spins its head around whilst releasing a small stream of spinning fire from its mouth. Unown moves to the side and avoids the attack before letting loose a Hidden Power Dark. " Jump over it and use Stomp," Mitch yells as Ponyta jumps upwards, causing the Hidden Power Dark to miss. Ponyta prepares to use Stomp, but its body becomes engulfed in a blinding white light just as its hoof starts to glow in preparation for the attack. Unown, who was about to fire off another Hidden Power Dark, is forced to stop everything and shield its eye from the light. 

   The light fades just in time for Mitch's newly evolved Rapidash to slam its glow white right hoof into Unown's body, pinning the Symbol Pokémon against the cave floor. " Unnnnnnnn," it grunts as it tries to free itself before succumbing to the damage. Rapidash lifts its hoof off of Unown as Mitch rushes over and heals it with a Revive and a Super Potion. He then pats Rapidash on the side as a L shaped Unown floats forwards to face them. " Let's keep this going! Use Smart Strike," he yells as Rapidash jumps forward with its metal coated horn outstretched and the L shaped Unown lets out a Hidden Power Dragon.
