A Battle with the Rainbow Bird

   A few miles outside Ecruteak City, Mitch and Typhlosion have come upon a rocky, elevated area and are cautiously making their way through it. Eventually, they reach the top of a hill that has a large flat area in it. " You want to take a break here," he asks as Typhlosion falls to the ground and lets out a loud yawn. " Okay, but only for a few hours," he says as he looks inside his bag for a snack, unaware of the fact that something hiding in the clouds is watching them. " Hoooooh," it thinks to itself.

  " Alright! Time to get back to it," Mitch says as he jumps to his feet and puts the garbage from all the snacks he has ate into a small garbage bag that he puts in his backpack. " Tyyyyyyyyyyyy," Typhlosion groans as it refuses to get back up. "Come on, the longer we wait, the less daylight we have," he says as he gently pokes at its side with his feet. " Losiooon," it grunts as it refuses to budge. Before Mitch has time to say anything about his Pokémon's Snorlax-like behavior, something quickly flies out of the clouds and hovers in front of them. " Hooooooooooooh," a Ho-Oh screeches as it gives both of them a knowing nod. " A LEGENDARY!?" Mitch shouts as Typhlosion quickly jumps to its feet. Ho-Oh stares at them with a knowing look on its face before both Mitch and Typhlosion have a realization. " Wait? Are you the Ho-Oh that we encountered at the top of the Burned Town?" Ho-Oh nods in response. " Cool! So, what are you doing here," he asks. Ho-Oh smirks at them before spitting a small fireball at their feet." Oh, you want to battle us to see how much stronger we've gotten," he says as it nods. " What would you say to a battle with a legend," Mitch says to Typhlosion as it grins and ignites its neck flame. 

  " We accept your challenge," Mitch says as he moves out of the way and gives the Fire-types a big enough space to battle in. " Start things off with Flamethrower," he shouts as Typhlosion shoots a medium sized stream of fire from its mouth. Ho-Oh does the exact same thing and the two Flamethrowers collide, causing an explosion. " Use Quick Attack," Mitch orders as Typhlosion, with a streak of white energy trailing behind, quickly runs through the fading smoke and slams into Ho-Oh at a high speed. Ho-Oh is barely fazed by the attack and shoots some fire that forms into the Japanese symbol for fire at Typhlosion. "Loooooooosioooon," it cries as the Fire Blast explodes on its chest, briefly knocking it to the ground. " Try a Shadow Claw," Mitch orders as Typhlosion's right paw becomes engulfed by a shadowy aura. " Tyyyyyyy," it roars as it jumps forward and slices Ho-Oh across the face with the claw. " Hoooooooooooooo," it screeches as it is knocked back several feet by the attack: Typhlosion landed a Critical Hit! 

  Ho-Oh hovers a few inches over the ground and tries to shake off the pain from the Shadow Claw, giving Typhlosion another chance to attack. " Let's try Flame Charge," MItch orders as Typhlosion gets down on all fours and its body becomes surrounded by translucent fire.  " Loooosioooon," it cries as it runs towards Ho-Oh. However, Ho-Oh recovers before Typhlosion can hit it and summons a bunch of old and eroded rocks out of thin air. " Ooooooh," it screeches as it throws the Ancient Power rocks towards Typhlosion. " Tyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy," it cries as the Super Effective move knocks it backwards, cancelling out its Flame Charge. " Tyyyyyyyy," it grunts as it lands on its back and slowly gets back to its feet. Taking advantage of Typhlosion's weakened state, Ho-Oh shoots another Fire Blast at it. " Counter that with Shadow Claw and then try to use Rollout," Mitch shouts as Typhlosion slams its shadow engulfed paw against the Fire Blast, destroying it on impact. Typhlosion then curls into a ball and rolls at Ho-Oh at a high speed.  " Hoooooooooooooooooo," it screeches as Typhlosion slams into it with the 4x effective move, knocking it out of the sky. 

  Ho-Oh lands on its belly as Typhlosion uncurls and lands on two feet next to it. At first, it looks like Ho-Oh isn't getting back up until is body glows with golden energy for about a minute. " Hoooooooooo," a refreshed looking Ho-Oh screeches as it flies back into the sky. " Crap! It knows Recover," Mitch groans as Ho-Oh flies up even higher as its body becomes surrounded by a golden aura. "Hoooooooooooooo," it cries as it quickly descends towards Typhlosion. " It's coming in for a Sky Attack, use Smokescreen to hide yourself," Mitch orders as Typhlosion shoots a large cloud of black smoke out of its mouth. However, Ho-Oh is unbothered as it as it quickly uses its wings to blow a little wind at the Smokescreen. The Gust attack might be small, but it's enough to blow all the smoke away, giving Ho-Oh a clear view of Typhlosion. " Tyyyyyyy," it grunts in a confused tone before Ho-Oh slams into it with Sky Attack. " Loooooooosioon," it exclaims as it is knocked backwards by the attack, landing on its right side with a very painful thud. Ho-Oh hovers over it and gives it a knowing look, Ho-Oh can sense that it still has some fight left in it. 

  " Typhlosion use Swift while you recover," Mitch commands as Typhlosion shoots multiple stars of yellow energy out of its mouth. The stars explode on Ho-Oh's chest area and force it to move back a couple of feet, giving Typhlosion enough time to get back to its feet. " Okay, use Shadow Claw," Mitch orders as Typhlosion jumps at Ho-Oh and slices it across the face with its shadow engulfed paw. " Don't stop there! Use Aerial Ace," he shouts as Typhlosion moves up even high and its body becomes surrounded by several streaks of white energy. " Siooooooon," it cries as it descends towards Ho-Oh at a high speed and slams into the top of its head. Typhlosion lands back on the ground as Ho-Oh uses one of its wings to rub all the places that it was hit. " Use Lava Plume," Mitch shouts as Typhlosion's front legs glow crimson red. " Tyyyyyyyyyphlooooosioon," it shouts as it slams the legs on the ground, causing a geyser of fire to erupt from under the soil. The geyser moves towards Ho-Oh, but it manages to fly out of the way at the last second. Ho-Oh hovers over Typhlosion as both of its wings glow bright red. " Hoooooooooooooooooooo," it screeches as it claps the wings together extremely hard, causing a wall of fire to appear around Typhlosion. " Tyyyyyyy," it shouts in a worried tone as Ho-Oh's beak begins to glow crimson red. " This must be Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire attack," Mitch thinks to himself as as drop of nervous sweat rolls down his face. 

  " Ooooooooooooh," Ho-Oh shouts as it unleashes a large ball of blue fire from its mouth. The fire ball hits Typhlosion and explodes just as the fire wall quickly moves in and also explodes on it. " Looooooooooooooooosiooooooooooon," it screams as it feels the pain of the Sacred Fire. The smoke from the attack clears away, revealing Typhlosion lying on its back with spirals in its eyes. " Hang on," Mitch shouts as he rushes forward and heals it a little with a Revive, giving it enough strength to sit up. " You did the best you could against a Legendary," he says whilst patting it on the back. Ho-Oh floats above them and happily smiles and nods before flying off into the clouds. " Well, look at that, you earned the respect of a Legendary Bird," Mitch says as Typhlosion weakly smiles.
