" Been a little while since we've been here," Mitch says as he and Typhlosion stand at the entrance to Professor Elm's lab. They go inside and walk through a laboratory equipment filled room before finding Professor Elm at a desk looking through a bunch of textbooks. "Ah, you're finally here," he says as he closes the textbooks and stands up. " Great to see you Mitch," he says while shaking Mitch's hand. He then walks over to Typhlosion and gives it several pats on the head. " And it's always great to see how much a Starter Pokémon that I used to take care of has grown," he proudly says as Typhlosion smiles. " Alright, enough of the greetings, let me go get the items that are the reason I invited you here," he says before running deeper into the lab.

Elm soon returns with a table of 14 necklaces, each of which has a colorful orb as the centerpiece, and a bracelet with a colorful orb in it. " Okay, I've been into contact with Professor Oak and learned about all the Pokémon you currently have. Would you happen to have your Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Aerodactyl, Scizor, Heracross, Houndoom, Beedrill, or Pidgeot with you at the moment," he asks as Mitch gets a confused look on his face. " I've got Heracross and Beedrill with me," he says as he takes their Poké Balls out and lets them out of them. " Hera, Hera, Heracross, Cross," " Bee, Bee, Drill, Beedrill," they both shout as they come out of their balls. They both immediately turn to the necklaces and walk over to them as if an unseen presence is calling them. " You might want to put this on," Elm says as he hands Mitch the bracelet. " What exactly is this," he asks as he puts the bracelet on his right arm.

" Well, the orb inside that bracelet is an item known as Key Stone and when used alongside the Mega Stones inside these necklaces, they can trigger a temporary transformation known as Mega Evolution,"  Elm explains as Heracross puts on the necklace that had the Heracronite label in front of it and Beedrill does the same thing with the one that had the Beedrillite label. " Mega Evolution only works on a few Pokémon and it only occurs in battle. They change into a new form for the battle with different stats, different abilities, and some of them even gain new  types. They return to their normal form after the battle is over or when they defeated. You also can only use Mega Evolution once more battle," he continues as Mitch stares at his Key Stone with intrigue. " In addition to the Pokémon I mentioned, your Haunter and your Pupitar will also become able to Mega Evolve once they reach their final forms, so I also got their Mega Stones for you," he says whilst pointing at the Gengarite and Tyranitarite on the table. " More and more trainers here in Johto have started using Mega Evolution, so I figured that if you and your friends from Kanto are going to compete in the Silver Conference than you would also like to be able to use it. What do you think?' " I think I want to try these out," Mitch replies with a grin.

A montage of Mitch testing out all of his Mega Evolution capable Pokémon outside of Elm's lab is shown. Mega Venusaur is barely affected by an Ice Fang from Mitch's Feraligatr thanks to its Thick Fat ability, The boost from Mega Launcher allows Mega Blastoise's Water Pulse to destroy multiple trees at the same time, Mega Kangaskhan is fascinated by the fact that it gets two attacks at once thanks to its baby being able to fight, Mega Pinsir struggles with its new wings at first, but eventually masters flight, Mega Aerodactyl slowly overcomes a severe anger problem that the change apparently causes it, Mega Scizor destroys a large rock with one clamp of its right pincer, Mega Heracross easily pulls a large tree out of the soil and tosses it over the horizon, Mega Houndoom is in awe at the large boost to its Special Attack, Mega Beedrill tests out its new Speed by doing multiple laps around New Bark Town, and Mega Pidgeot starts to get a little too prideful of the fact that none of its attacks will ever miss thanks to No Guard.

" Only one more to go," Mitch says as he comes out of the lab and grabs the Charizardite Y from the now outside table. " Hey Professor, why are their two Mega Stones here for Charizard," he asks whilst looking down at the Charizardite X on the table. " For some strange reason, Charizard has two separate Mega Evolution forms that both require a different Mega Stone. Nobody really knows why," Elm explains. " Well in that case, I'll use the Y Mega Stone here and wait until Charizard fights in the Silver Conference to use the X Stone," he says before throwing the Poké Ball he has had in his hand the whole time into the air. " Zaaaaaaaaaaaard," it roars before gently taking the Charizardite Y necklace from Mitch's hand and putting it on. " Looks like you're just as eager to do this as everyone else was," he says as Charizard eagerly nods. " Well in that case, Charizard, Mega Evolve," he shouts as he pushes two fingers against his Key Stone Bracelet, causing both it and the Charizardite Y to glow. " Chaaaaaaaaariiiiiiizaaaaaaaard," it roars as a ball of opaque, multi-colored energy surrounds its body. After a few seconds, the ball disappears: revealing Mega Charizard Y. " Zaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaardddd," it loudly exclaims as Mitch looks on with pride and excitement. " Stuff like this is going to make the Silver Conference so much fun," he says with a grin.
