Mitch and Cyndaquil are walking down a widening dirt path in the middle of a forested field as Mitch stares at a map of the Johto Region. " Okay, if we keep up this pace, we should come up on Dark Cave and from there it's only a few miles to Violet City," Mitch explains as Cyndaquil nods in understanding. Eventually, they come up on Dark Cave and hear a chuckle come from within the darkness and out of the cave comes........ Joe! Like Mitch, Joe has also changed his outfit: his black shirt has been replaced by a dark blue shirt, his brown pants have been replaced by black ball shorts and his black shoes have been replaced by brown hiking boots. " I was beginning to think that you losers would never show up. In the time that it's taken you to get here I've already had time to earn the badge from Violet City. Let's battle, so I can destroy you again." " Uhm, last I checked, I won the last battle we had and humiliated you and your massive ego in front of a massive crowd of people." Joe angrily grits his teeth before laying his eyes on Cyndaquil.  " Well, well, looks like you chose the first stage of that Pokémon that destroyed you and your Charizard in the Indigo League and caused you to lose the tournament.  There's no way this thing is going to get as strong as that Typhlosion was, especially with somebody like you as its trainer. Keep in mind, you only won our last battle because of a lucky Evolution."

" 3 things: 1. That Typhlosion also beat Poliwhirl. 2. I made sure that Dragonair was close to evolving before I used it in the battle. 3. Cyndaquil is stronger than it looks and will continue to get better. Don't believe me? Let's battle to prove it," Mitch says as Cyndaquil ignites its back flame and gets ready for a fight.  " Okay, but we only one Pokémon each, Totodile, I choose you!" " Toto, Toto, Dile, Totodile," Joe's Totodile shouts as it lands in front of him and gets into a battle stance. " Oh, I see: You got a starter from Professor Elm too. Alright, this battle is going to be interesting. Cyndaquil, use Quick Attack!" " Cyndaaaa," it shouts as it runs towards Totodile with white energy streaks trailing behind it. " Counter that wimpy move with Water Gun," Joe mumbles as " Totooooooo," Totodile shoots a medium sized stream of water out of its mouth. Cyndaquil is unable to avoid the move and is knocked back by the water stream. " Cyndaaa," it cries as it hits the ground and Joe yells, " Use Scratch while it's down!" The claws on Totodile's left hand glow white as it runs forward and slashes Cyndaquil across the side with them. Cyndaquil winces in pain as Mitch commands it to, " use Ember!" " Cyndaaaaaaaa," it shoots multiple small fireballs out of its mouth, and they hit Totodile directly in the chest, causing it to stumble backwards as it cries " Dillllllllllle," in pain.

" Use Tackle," Mitch exclaims and Cyndaquil runs forward and slams into Totodile with its entire body, briefly knocking it on its back. " Get up and use Bite," Joe commands as Totodile jumps to its feet, runs up to Cyndaquil, and bites it on the left shoulder. " Quilllllllllll," it screams as Joe yells, " don't let up, turn Bite into Ice Fang!" " Dileee," it mumbles as it temporarily lets its mouth up from Cyndaquil's shoulder and its teeth become coated in ice as it bites back down.  " Come on Cyndaquil, Use Ember," Mitch orders whilst Cyndaquil struggles through the pain and shoots the multiple small fireballs out. They hit Totodile in the shoulder and force it to let go of Cyndaquil. " Cyndaaaaaaa," Cyndaquil cries as it rolls into a ball of fire, rolls forward, and slams into Totodile. Totodile is knocked to the ground by the attack as Mitch exclaims, " Did you just learn Flame Wheel!" Cyndaquil turns to face Mitch, smiles, and nods as Totodile gets back to its feet and Joe tells it to, " attack with Water Pulse while they're prematurely celebrating!" " Totooooo," it cries as it forms a big ball of water between its arms and throws it at Cyndaquil. " Cyndaaaaaaa," it cries as the attack hits it in the back and knocks it to the ground.  It tries to get back up as Joe tells Totodile, " it's time to end this, use another Water Pulse!"  " Totoooo ," it says as it prepares to throw another big ball of water at Cyndaquil. However, right when it throws it, Mitch yells, " Use Quick Attack to dodge and then use Flame Wheel!"

" Cyndaaa," Cyndaquil mumbles as it manages to move quickly out of the way of Totodile's Water Pulse, roll into a ball of fire, and slam into Totodile's side. " Totoooooo," it cries, but quickly recovers as Joe shouts, " Use Water Gun!" Totodile fires the medium sized stream of water out of its mouth as Mitch orders Cyndaquil to, " Counter with Ember!" The fireballs and water stream collide and create a small cloud of steam, that Cyndaquil uses as cover as it uses Quick Attack. " Totoo," it cries as the attack sends it skidding backwards. It stops right in front of Joe and falls down on one knee. " Come on, Totodile, we can't let this losers win! Get back up and use Water Pulse!" Totodile struggles to stand as Mitch decides to take advantage of its weakened state. " Cyndaquil, use Flame Wheel," he orders as Cyndaquil rolls into a ball of fire and begins to move towards Totodile. However, Totodile manages to get to its feet, form the Water Pulse between its hands, and throw it at Cyndaquil. The attack hits Cyndaquil and explodes, forcing it to stop its Flame Wheel.

When the dust from the explosion clears, Cyndaquil lies on its stomach with spirals in its eyes. However, all the damage that Totodile has taken also takes its toll, it falls over on its back and spirals appear in its eyes. " ARE YOU KIDDING ME! A DOUBLE KNOCKOUT! I TIED WITH THIS LOSER!" Joe angrily roars as he returns Totodile and angrily stomps off. Mitch quickly walks over to Cyndaquil and uses a Revive on it, giving it enough energy to sit back up. " Well, we sure made him mad, but hey look at the bright side, you have a new move just in time for our gym battle," Mitch happily says as he pats Cyndaquil on the head and it gleefully smiles.
