Bruno got to his feet, helping Jas out of the soft couch they'd sunk into. He held her hand, still shaking. And he could feel hers shaking too.
He looked over at Thabi and James, who were both nervously looking at the crowd. He imagined that this would all be very overwhelming for the quiet pair.
But it would all be over soon. He knew from what he'd seen of their relationship how bloody cute they were. While Bruno and Jas had been all rollercoasters, chemistry, and fireworks, Thabi and James had been all personal growth , and romance, and whispering promises in the dark. Thabi and James were a bloody love story for the ages.
And they would win for sure.
But was it selfish to hope he was wrong?
The money would go a long way for them. It took a little bit of the stress off them in the short term. They wouldn't have to go back to work immediately. They could have a few weeks off, at the very least.
That would be so nice.
He just... he didn't want himself to hope.
Chelsea invited the four of them over to stand beside her.
"Bruno and Jas, Thabi and James. It has been, likes, totes amazing to watch your relationships grow over the past four weeks. But there can only be one winning couple, and the public have cast their vote."
Holding Jas's hand wasn't enough. He wrapped his arms around her, and she wrapped hers around his waist, holding each other tightly.
He closed his eyes, resting his head against hers, pressing his lips to her hair.
It'll be Thabi and James, for sure.
The production team handed Chelsea an envelope.
"The winners of Love Island Season 4 are..."
She opened the envelope.
Bruno waited, as she paused, letting the silence linger.
How would he react?
Would they hug James and Thabi? Wait for them to hug each other first?
Clap?
His ears readied themselves for the words. Thabi and James. Thabi and James. Thabi and James.
Chelsea read the envelope, and lifted her microphone to her lips.
Bruno and Jas!
.
.
.
Wait... what?
The incongruity between the words his ears had been expecting, and the words Chelsea said, made his brain hurt suddenly.
But his ears immediately had something else to worry about. The crowd erupted into a thunderous, overwhelmingly loud roar, as balloons and shiny confetti started falling from the top floor of the villa above them.
Screaming. Cheering. Whistling. Yelling.
He just looked at Jas, who looked just as confused as him.
We won?
But he was pulled from his shock by the feeling of Jas throwing her arms around his neck.
She crashed her lips into his, and he just let his instincts take over, pulling her closer to him. Kissing her seemed to always make everything go quiet. And right now, he needed that quiet.
