5.2 Second Thoughts

I shook my head as I listened to Bella rant about this or that. How it was unfair that our daughter wasn't getting her whole family. That it wasn't fair that the Volturi were coming after us when we had done nothing wrong. But what pissed me off, that Emma and Madalynn were with them. Alice and I had talked and if they gave testimony against us then it would be the death of us all. I knew we needed to talk to Carlisle. When we found him he was pacing in his office. His mind was everywhere and I couldn't penpoint what he was truly thinking about.

"If she has figured out what I have done!" He said and I frowned at him. I knew that he was the reason for the death of the original Greek coven. I knew what he did and I was disgusted by him at first but when he told me his reasoning behind it. I don't know, I guess it made more sense. "If she tells them!" He said and I frowned as he thought about the love affair he had with a female. She wasn't a vampire. So I wasn't sure who it was. Alice also looked confused.

I wonder what all she knew. We both knew about why he kept Madalynn around and what he was trying to do with her blood and venom. But did she know about the Greek coven and what he had done? I knew Rosalie and Emmett did. I was sure Jasper didn't as he would have wanted to talk about it. I wondered if Esme knew.

"Have you gotten any closer?" Alice asked as she walked over to the table that had hers and Esme venom.

"NO! Her blood and venom won't mix with anyone else's." He said and I sighed. "There is something missing. I just don't know what it is." He said as he ran his hand through his hair. "What was your vision again?" He asked, looking over at Alice. I huffed as I was getting annoyed. Here we were with the Volturi upon us and they were still trying to figure out how Madalynn would be able to get pregnant.

"You know what it was, Carlisle. It hasn't changed." Alice said as she looked at him with a pout. "Have you found where they are yet?" She asked and I scoffed. Heidi had been Carlisle's little helper since she joined their coven.

"NO! It seems that our kings are keeping their location a secret even from their own coven members." He said and I sighed.

"We shouldn't be worrying about where they are. We need to worry about The Volturi coming for us all. If what you said is right. Emma and Madalynn will tell them everything. As they have nothing to lose." I said trying to get us on the topic we needed to talk about. "Emmett and Rosalie as well. We could all be facing death." I said and they both sighed.

"I am already facing death. Or have you forgotten that?" Alice said with a little pout. I knew she was. As I had read Aro's mind when I was in Italy. It was a miracle we even made it out of there alive. The only reason we did was because of what Alice had shown him. If only he knew that her vision was fake. Or it was at the time. We had a good laugh about that after the fact but we both knew it was only a matter of time before they came for us. Even Carlisle knew it was only a matter of time before they found out what he had done and was doing to earn more power.

"Edward... I will not stop until I figure out how to make us all more powerful. And Esme can have my child." He said and I shook my head. This wasn't right. Madalynn didn't deserve this. It wasn't her fault.

"This is wrong, you know that. That is why Emmett and Rosalie left. They knew we were up to something. They knew we were lying to them and hiding things. That was why they left. That is why Emmett started to fight against us." I said before walking away. I didn't notice Bella as I walked outside.

I stood in our backyard and watched as Jake played with my daughter. Even though I didn't like it I was happy she had him. But sad as it seemed like Bella now hated our child. Jake even started to notice this and pulled away more from Bella. Which only seemed to piss her off even more.

"What are you all hiding?" Bella asked and I frowned at her. "I know you are all up to something and I have a right to know what it is. As your wife and a member of this coven.

"If you hadn't come along my coven would still be whole. If you hadn't pushed yourself on us then Emmett Rosale and Madalynn would still be here." I said, making her gasp.

"This isn't my fault. Madalynn was ready to leave long before me." She said and I knew she was right. Madalynn was ready to leave. She hated our way of life. She hated that we hid her away. We all knew she wanted to find her mate. And now that she has found him I knew there was no getting her back on to our side.

"We are all going to die and it is because of us!" I said and Bella just frowned at me. I walked away from Bella and over to my daughter and Jake.

"How do we protect her?" Jake asked and I frowned at him. I knew we couldn't ask the pack as Sam had made it a point to never help us again after the newborn battle. He was on Madalynn's side, as were many others of that pack.

"Hope that we can show them that she is not a danger. But that won't stop Madalynn and Emma from coming after me and Bella." I said and Jake frowned at me. "Let's just say there are other reasons that my family is in danger." I said and Jake shook his head. He knew a little but not much as Carlisle didn't want to give out too much info on why we were going to be put to death. He didn't want more people to know the crimes he had committed.
