After promising Will that he would call Patrick, Jay went home that night wrestling with his own thoughts. He was her father, he thought she was dead, he needed to know that she was alive. But I want to talk to her first. As selfish as Jay felt, he fell asleep with such confliction in his mind that he'd made no attempt to call Patrick, so when he awoke at 6am the following morning with no idea if the doctor was on the morning shift or not, he panicked. The last thing he wanted was to be on bad terms with him, or deal with the confrontation he'd face from knowing Lennox was alive and not calling him straight away. After hurriedly getting ready he sped to the hospital with the intention of finding out if Patrick was on call, and was relieved to know that he wasn't due in until the afternoon. Jay went directly to Lennox's room to check on her, surprised to see her upright and dismantling herself from the medical equipment she was hooked up to.
"Lennox?"
She turned after hearing her name, frowning as Jay watched her take out the canula from her arm.
"What are you doing here?" She glanced over her shoulder, pivoting on her foot to face him.
Jay greeted her with a hug that he could no longer contain, taking no notice of the fact that she didn't reciprocate his embrace. Then he remembered her lung injury and released her quickly.
"Sorry, did I hurt you?"
"No."
"Good. How do you feel?"
"I feel fine."
"Clearly. Isn't a doctor supposed to help you with that?" He let out a laugh as he looked at the canula in her hand.
She raised an eyebrow at it and then looked back at him.
"I'm a doctor's daughter, I know what I'm doing." She said blankly, clearly missing the intended humour of his comment.
Jay was too busy taking in the sight of Lennox to notice that she seemed...different.
He shook his head. "I can't believe you're here. I thought...we all thought-"
"That I was dead, I know." She finished, nodding casually, tossing the canula onto the bed. "I was hoping it would stay that way."
