"How does it work? The ritual?" Lennox finally asked.

Her breaking the silence made Evelyn smile at her daughter's curiosity. "It's a transfer ritual, of energies and spirits. We have Ekaterina's body perfectly preserved, her spirit lays dormant inside her being until we perform a summoning spell that will awaken it and draw it out. The spell was written to be performed on Ekaterina and her recurrence if one were to ever be born, and those two beings only. Once we draw her spirit, it is simply a matter of keeping it contained on our sacred ground and transferring it into you."

She watched Lennox mull it over in her mind, narrowing an eye after just a few seconds. "And do I have to be dead in order for this transfer to work?"

"No. You will be moved to an area of your subconscious where you will comfortably co-exist alongside the high priestess."

"Right. And once I'm...co-existing, can I still see everything? Or will I be living in my own little make believe world while she destroys civilization?"

"Your jokes aren't appreciated. Ekaterina is good Lennox, she wants nothing but good for this world."

"You don't know that." Lennox faced her mother. "She descended into dark magic mom, you have to be pretty far gone to do that, you have no idea what it did to her after that. I'm not claiming to know either, but it never ends well when a good spirit becomes imbued with dark magic. What if she's not as good and pure as you're expecting?"

"You have no right to question the high priestess."

"I'm not trying to, I'm just asking have you ever stopped and thought about why the ancestors are doing this? What do they want with Ekaterina's return, and why are they following her so blindly?"

"I don't need to know those answers Lennox. I have enough faith and trust in my bloodline and my priestess to know that she will bring nothing but purity to this world, however she may do that. If you don't share those beliefs then you must hope that she's as merciful as she is good."

Lennox found it a little contradictory that her mother was preaching the goodness of Ekaterina, yet warning her that she may be harmed or punished if the high priestess wasn't followed or abided by. But she didn't seem phased about the threat she had just passed off, in fact she was just as blind as the ancestors, if not more so. She watched Evelyn go inside the manor before turning back to the sunrise as the door closed, letting the warmth curb the frustration she could feel bubbling all over her body.
