She slowly circled Lennox, whose confusion began to show on her face.
"That's not possible. The curse-"
"I'm aware of the curse and its supposed conditions. Like I said, something is different here. No matter what I do to him, nothing changes. He continues to look at me with the same hatred he showed when I awoke the host of your body. According to the curse I'm destined to find my love, Drew, over and over again, both meeting the same devastating demise on the nineteenth birthday of every life my spirit lives through the rest of eternity. You had visions of all your past lives growing up, didn't you?"
"Yes."
"Well, every time Drew's spirit passes onto the next unfortunate victim, they are supposed to have those same visions. Detective Jason has never had these visions."
"There's no way you could know that for sure unless...unless you went through his memories." Lennox narrowed an eye at Ekaterina as she came to stand in front of her.
"I did. And I found nothing except you. I have always believed that love is fate, it cannot be forced, but perhaps there had been a flaw, a glitch, in the curse. But that man bares no emotional connection to me, he shares nothing with my Drew. He has lived his entire life having no involvement in the curse. It's almost as if he was never meant to be involved."
Lennox frowned, trying to figure out what on earth something like that could mean. No visions. No important memories of anyone but her. After seconds that felt like hours, it came to her.
"He was never made for you." She spoke slowly to ensure that she was even thinking straight as Ekaterina smiled.
"Smart girl. It seems, somehow, that your existence has overridden the curse. Reset the balance, so to speak."
"He was born outside of the curse, his life wasn't lived according to what was supposed to happen to him because nothing ever was."
"Exactly. It seems as though the similarities between your love and mine are just...the universe, playing a cruel trick on us both. Do you understand how much power something like that takes? To make redundant a curse that has continued for centuries before you're even born?"
The anger was evident in Ekaterina's voice. Lennox raised an eyebrow before locking eyes with her twin. "I can say no, if it'll make you feel better."
