Upon reflection, the energy shift had been apparent from the moment Lennox entered the police station, but not as apparent as it was when Casey walked into the room. How can you be so oblivious? She thought, the frown on her face causing Casey to shake his head.
"Listen kid, I don't exactly know what's going on with you and Jay, but I promise you, you have nothing to worry about. He'll be back at some point and I'll let him know that you were here."
"But Sergeant Casey,"
"I've gotta get back, don't stress okay?" He started walking away, and as a result of everybody giving her the same mind-numbing answer, Lennox couldn't withhold her frustrations and went after him to get a real answer.
"Casey! I'm not leaving until somebody tells me where Jay is!" She caught up to him, reaching for his arm before he could get to the elevator.
When touching his skin, Lennox gasped at the shock she received through her hand as a ripple of green and gold appeared around Casey's body. She let go, watching the iridescent aura fade as he turned to face her.
"Lennox, I don't exactly know what's going on with you and Jay, but I promise you, you have nothing to worry about." He repeated calmly.
"Yeah I know, you just told me that. Word for word actually." She frowned as she looked him up and down, but when he made eye contact with him again she noticed the gold glimmer in his eyes. "Oh no," She stepped back from him.
Magic. Despite her lack of experience with it, in her gut she knew that he was under some sort of magical influence, and suspected the entire building to be the same way. How else could they go so long without worrying about Jay? But how do I fix it? He could know where Jay is. I can't exactly ask him if he's seen Kaila recently, he'd think I was crazy.
"Lennox, I've gotta get back, but don't-"
"Yeah don't stress, I know." She sighed, the frustration dripping from her exhale as she looked around.
She pondered her options, but impulsivity prevailed when the elevator door opened. To stop him leaving, Lennox pulled him by the sleeve into the nearest room, being quick to close the door behind them.
"Lennox,"
"Just listen to me. You don't know what's happening, I get that, but Jay is missing. I know that right now you're under some kind of spell that I don't know how to fix but I need you to snap out of it! Jay, who you love like a son is missing, do you understand that? So I need you to try and remember what happened to you so that you can help me find him. Please Sarge, just try and snap out of it!"
