Lennox had begun pacing back and forth again, trying to understand her mother's words. But it was clear that she wouldn't understand anything unless she was given a full explanation. She stopped, shaking her head as she tried to find her words.

"I don't know how to do this. I don't know why any of this is happening, I just want it to be over."

"I know sweetheart, and I know you're scared, even if you can't feel it. But there's a reason all of this has happened to us. To you. You're special Lennox. More special than you could ever imagine."

"How? There's nothing special about me."

"Not that you know of."

"Okay just...enough, with the riddle talk. Okay? Just...tell me the truth. What happened to you when I was a little girl?"

Evelyn nodded, expecting the question to have come sooner. "You deserve the full story. The day I went missing, was the day I gave myself to the manor, a sacrifice, to keep the energy strong and connected. I prepared you Lennox, for months."

She smiled as she went over to Lennox, who was already frowning in confusion. "Sacrifice? You didn't prepare me for that."

"I did. I brought you here, didn't I? I finally brought you here, I made sure you were comfortable, that you had my key if you ever needed it. And then when it was time, we said our goodbyes, I sent you off to school that morning, I said goodbye to your father. It was time that I made my sacrifice, the same way all the women in our family had done before me. You have to understand the deep connection that our family has to the manor house, it's been there for hundreds of years."

"What connection? I did everything I could, mom I never found anything,"

"You weren't supposed to, it's hidden. I knew I would get the chance to tell you eventually, I just had to bide my time until my chance came. That photograph you found of Ekaterina, and sent to Jay, she's where all of this starts."
