"No Jay, this is not one of your cases! This isn't something for you to solve, this is my daughter, and her best friend going through something more traumatising - dare I say it - than Lennox losing her mother. I know that you don't want this to be true, that you want her to feel something, anything,"
"Yes I want her to feel something, but that has nothing to do with why I don't trust Kaila, surely you can see my side on this. Patrick, you're a doctor, you know better than anyone that if she was really trapped down there, she would have died days, weeks after going missing because nobody can survive without food or water for more than a week and that's max, am I wrong?"
Patrick forced an exhale with his hand over his eyes. "No, you are not wrong."
"Okay, so tell me why nobody is questioning how she's here right now. I know that when they came back you were probably just happy, and you didn't want to push her, but Kaila has never really seemed that concerned with Lennox's sociopathy has she? And she's been this way since she came home. I've never seen them apart, have you?"
"No, but that doesn't mean anything, they have a right to be close."
"I'm just asking you to consider the fact that realistically, the Kaila that came back with Lennox isn't the same one who went missing."
"Now that is a wild accusation." Patrick glared at Jay, but after just a few seconds his expression morphed into one of slight fear and concern.
By the look alone, Jay knew that it was a thought Patrick had considered before, but not one he wanted to believe was possible. Before anything else could be said Lennox appeared at the door and came into the office. They both turned to her as she looked between them.
"I'm ready to go home now, if you don't mind."
"Yeah, I'll catch up with you later Patrick."
