Forces Beyond The Grave

Chapter Fifteen

Dearest Ekaterina,

As I attempt to put quill to parchment, my heart trembles with the weight of a thousand suns. To think, that this may be my last address to you causes an ache in my soul too deep to be comforted or consoled. Though the duration of our love was cloaked in shadows and secrecy, I write these words to assure you that a single thought of our forbidden courtship sets ablaze within me an ocean of sparks that rival each shooting star to grace the midnight sky.

With each syllable I curse Fate herself, for in the regard of happiness, she was dealt us a cruel blow. I will complete my duty to my country with a heavy heart to be drawn from your embrace, but as I do so, sweetest Ekaterina, know this. Amongst the depths of war's woeful embrace, my mind is bound to you, and my soul will forever be entwined with yours. Hold onto these words, I beg of you, for they are the anchors of our connection and will keep us so as our bodies are separated by the throws of battle. 

When the silvery glow of the moon casts itself upon this land, I shall seek solace in that no matter the distance between us, our eyes rest upon the same stars that fill the sky each night. And at dawn, when the first rays of sun signal a new day has begun, I shall think of you, your radiance a beacon to guide me home after my treacherous journey through the darkness.

Should the earth bestow upon me good fortune, I shall take solace knowing that if I should falter at the hands of thine enemy's sword, my love will continue on past the veil that parts our realm from the next. In the spirit realm, that is where we find our peace, where no earthly barriers of the flesh shall bind us.

Alas, I say my final farewell, dearest Ekaterina, and I ask that as you hold my words close to your heart, you imagine my very presence. Know, my love, that I hold dear to me the day that our souls meet once more, never again to be separated by the restrictions of this human world.
