"Hey!"
Lennox jumped and nearly hit Skye, who'd been waiting patiently for Lennox to come out of class. She flinched, ducking slightly as Lennox sighed.
"Skye...why would you do that?"
"Sorry, I'm just happy to see you. What was that about? Everyone already came out?"
"Professor Ashmont wanted to talk, everything's fine."
The girls walked towards the exit, Skye resisting the urge to interrogate Lennox until they got outside. "So what happened last night? I thought something happened to you. And I don't know is going on with Kaila, but she ghosted me a couple days ago, she won't talk to me and then last night when I couldn't find you I went to her room and I couldn't find her either. I tried calling but I don't think she wants to talk to me right now. I just don't get it, did I do something wrong? I know you're not really the best person to ask but I hate it when people are mad at me I just need to know that she's okay."
Lennox sighed again, this time for a very different reason, as they headed to the courtyard.
"So? Have you seen her?" She asked again. Lennox stopped walking, Skye stopping too.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Skye, there's something I need to tell you about Kaila."
It was the conversation she was hoping to avoid for much longer than just a few hours, but Skye wasn't exactly the type of person to not notice anything; she noticed everything, and she wouldn't drop it until she found out what was going on, Lennox would've held out if it weren't for her gut telling her that Skye needed to know, so for the hour they had between classes they went back to the sorority house to talk. After hearing the same explanation Lennox had given Jay, Skye was sitting in front of her, jaw dropped to the ground for at least a whole minute before finally reacting to the news.
"That sneaky bitch!" She exclaimed.
Lennox raised an eyebrow at her as she stood up and shook her head. "I'm sorry, I know you said that it's your mom but I needed to get that out of my system. And I'm sorry for calling her evil, but at the time Jay and I were getting the same vibes from her."
"I get it Skye, don't apologize. I should've listened to Jay."
"No, oh my God," Skye came back to the sit in front of Lennox, holding her hands. "None of this is your fault. Okay? None of it, you didn't know, how could you? I just can't believe that since you got back it's been...your mom, inside Kaila's body, God that's so weird. So...so Kaila's really dead?"
"Yeah. I'm sorry Skye."
"No, don't be. Honestly, I'm actually kind of relieved."
"You are?"
"Yeah. I mean she was gone for two years before everything went down, I'd already mourned her, so I feel better knowing that she didn't suffer for that long. Does Jay know about all this?"
"I told him this morning, he was just as shocked as you are."
"This is crazy. I mean, what are you gonna do?"
"I don't know yet."
"What about your magic?"
"I don't know about that either. To my mom, I've only ever been one thing - a legend come true. I didn't grow up with magic, at least if I did I never used it, I'm not what she thinks I am."
"Maybe you are. Maybe you just haven't found a way to access it yet."
"I don't know. What would you do?"
"Me? You're asking me if I would give my life up to be a vessel for a powerful witch? If she's as dark as described, no way. And I don't want to lose the only friend I have left Lennox. If you do have magic, I hope it's powerful enough to resist whatever they want to do to you."
"Yeah, I hope not, that's how this mess started in the first place."
"Well whatever happens next, I'm here okay? And Jay too. We're with you. Magic or no magic, you're family to us, you don't have to do this alone."
