"She's remarkable."
"I can feel Ekaterina's spirit inside of her."
"Is she healthy?"
"The vessel is in perfect condition."
Lennox had never imagined what it might be like to be analysed and judged by an empty room. But as the ancestors had yet to show themselves, that was exactly what she'd had to put up with as they observed her from the comfort of their shadows. Her mother had summoned them just minutes before, and waited patiently for them to finish their judgments. She felt as though she were back in her biology class, being the guinea pig of a group project on the anatomy of the human body, poked and prodded as her fellow students had jabbed labels attached to safety pins into the different areas of her lab coat. At the time it wasn't all that amusing, but compared to this, it was where she would rather have been. To distract herself from the discussion she tried thinking of Jay, and what they could've been doing if they weren't in the middle of this mess that had become their lives. Watching a movie, getting out of town and going to the beach, having conversations that took them anywhere and everywhere whilst the sun was rising on an early morning walk to the coffee shop. Instead, all she could picture of Jay was that dreaded collar that kept him chained to the wall like a rabid dog before her oh-so-loving mother was gracious enough to remove it for him.
"Ancestors," Evelyn's voiced echoed with the confidence of a cult leader, gaining the attention and silence of the spirits gathered in front of them. "There will be plenty of time to examine the vessel before the ceremony. For now, I can be sure you are satisfied with the fact that there will be a ceremony after all."
"It must take place tomorrow night Evelyn, it will be our only chance with the moon at it's most powerful."
"Everything will be arranged, I assure you. In the mean time, since this is your first time meeting the recurrence, perhaps you all could be so kind as to show yourselves for her eyes."
"If she were really the recurrence she would be able to see us already." One of the spirits said disapprovingly.
Evelyn turned to Lennox. "Use the energy of the house. You know what to do."
