Lennox's voice was dripping with guilt. Jay's arm may have been dripping with blood, but he couldn't have cared less if he couldn't even make her turn around.
"Lennox, show me your eyes. Please? I'm fine, you were having a bad dream it doesn't matter."
"Of course it matters!" She spun around ready to be as angry as she was guilty, but instead was met with a kiss that rendered any and all of her thoughts redundant.
When Jay finally pulled back her eyes opened, but lingered on his in shock long enough for him to get a good look at the golden chrome shade her eyes had become. Lennox soon snapped out of it, attempting to break eye contact, but Jay gently lifted her head.
"Let me see." He said quietly.
The kiss had triggered a flashback episode that reran the events of the previous night through Lennox's mind like a film on repeat, causing an explosion of sensations to flutter throughout her body, one after the other, until her ribs began to shudder with desire. It was only then that she realised how intensely her mind was buzzing with emotion.
"They're beautiful." He spoke gently, cautious not to overwhelm her.
"But I hurt you." She whispered.
He shook his head. "You didn't mean to. I'll be fine."
"But I wasn't careful,"
"Lennox, I'll be fine. It just needs some stitches."
"No." She shook her head as she looked down at her hands.
He sighed, leaning his head against hers for a few seconds. "I was just waking you up to say goodbye, Casey called me in."
"You're leaving?"
"I know it's not the best time,"
"Why does he need you?"
"Because they just found Kaila's body." The statement alone caused a feeling of shock that Lennox hadn't felt in years, despite knowing that Kaila had been dead for longer than she'd been free of her conscience.
Jay saw the change in her body language as she became tense. "I know, I'm surprised too. I worked her case when she went missing, Casey wants me on this one and I can't exactly say no, not after what we found out about your mom using her as a vessel and everything. I wish I could bring you with me, but it's probably best that you stay here, where it's safe."
He started walking away towards the bedroom door, but Lennox went after him.
"Wait, you can't go to work like that." She gestured to his arm.
"It's okay, I'll stop by the hospital and see Will,"
"No." She sat him down at the kitchen island, being gentle with his arm as she bent it to see the wound.
He winced, but tried not to make a sound as Lennox placed her hand on the sliced skin.
Now's the time, she thought. If you're in there, please let this work.
She closed her eyes, and Jay watched as her brows furrowed slightly. It was the face Lennox always adorned when she would concentrate - something Jay found incredibly attractive. After only a few seconds he watched almost white veins come to the surface in Lennox's forearm, travelling down to her hand like thousands of shooting stars all coming together to form one big burst of energy. His arm began to heal, and not a minute later it was as though he'd never been injured. Lennox finally opened her eyes, taking a slow and controlled deep breath in as she released Jay's arm. He stared at his newly repaired skin before gazing at her in awe.
"How...Lennox,"
"I don't know. I just...I didn't think it would work."
