Lennox frowned slightly at her mother's words. She was lucky that her confusion was getting the better of her anger, otherwise it would have been a very different story. Sacrifice? She thought. What had her mother sacrificed? She didn't exactly seem sad at the fact she'd killed herself and left behind her husband and her daughter, and she didn't seem at all phased by the idea of giving up her only child for some witch to take her place. At least I'm fighting for Jay. You never fought for me.

She finally faced her mother as she shook her head. "Not everybody has to sacrifice their own lives for an ancient priestess."

"It is an honour to be the vessel of Ekaterina."

"Then you do it." Lennox crossed her arms over her chest as she leant against the fence. "Huh? If it's such an honour why don't you do it? I don't see you jumping at the chance to be some legend."

"I'm not the recurrence. I was chosen to be the carrier, not the legend, and I'm extremely proud to be the one who brought you into the world."

"Oh well that's just great, at least I know where I stand." Lennox stopped herself before she said something she'd regret, but after putting her thoughts into perspective she decided that maybe it was time she spoke her mind.

"You don't even see yourself as my mother, do you?" She looked up from her feet at Evelyn. "I'm not your daughter. I never was. All you ever saw when you looked at me was the reckoning. Was her. You only ever cared about today, I get it now. You know you never acted any differently that day. You sent me off to school, said you'd see me when I got home, told dad you loved him like you did everyday when you left. I bet you didn't feel a thing about leaving, you'd done your job, that's all we ever were to you."

"Honey that's not true." "Isn't it? You just called yourself a carrier, mom, or Evelyn, is probably better right? You never saw yourself as a mother, you were told you were giving birth to a legend and that your only job was to see me to term, that's the extent of our relationship. That and making sure I was here to do the ritual, this is the only thing you came back for. You don't care what happens to me, as long as Ekaterina is successfully transferred into me."

Maybe it was nothing she hadn't considered before, but hearing herself say the words out loud and having no rebuttal from her mother made it clear to Lennox that she was right about all of it. She nodded to herself, turning back to the sunrise and embracing the silence for a minute or so.
