There were no more voices after that, and by then, Jay's vision had cleared enough for him to recognise the woman as she turned around. He had never met Lennox's mother, but the pictures carried enough resemblance for him to recognise her immediately.

"Evelyn?"

She walked over to him slowly as he tried to sit up, but his physical weakness in combination with the rope around his wrists made it so that he was helpless as she crouched down in front of him and held his jaw tightly.

"It really is nice to finally meet you, Jay. But you have no idea what kind of damage you've done." She stood up after letting him go, sighing as Jay tried desperately to sit himself up.

"How... that's not possible, you're..." He trailed off, wincing everytime he shifted as she gestured to herself.

"Me? Yeah, you'd be amazed at the kind of preservation you can achieve with a little magic. Not to mention I was getting tired of Kaila's body, so restrictive. I hope your team found her okay."

Jay couldn't help but glare. "She deserved better. She was Lennox's best friend-"

"And it's a tragedy, but we move on. Stop, you'll hurt yourself."

"Weren't you just talking about doing that for me?"

"Don't you think there's a reason you're so weak?" At the suggestion Jay stopped moving, narrowing an eye at her as she paced in front of him. "Must be hard, to be helpless. Probably not a feeling you're used to."

"What did you do to me?"

"Nothing that can't be removed after our little talk."

"There's people looking for me."

"Oh really?"

"I'm a cop, you think you can just kidnap a cop without somebody asking questions?"

"I do if I can alter their memories." She raised an eyebrow at him, and the look of fear that crossed Jay's face was one that made her smile. "Don't worry, they still know who you are."

"You touched my team."

"No,"

"What did you do to them Evelyn?"

"I didn't touch them! I didn't have to. You know at some point, if you survive this, you have a lot to learn about magic, but for now lets just say they think you're busy."

"And Lennox? What did you do to her?"

At the mention of Lennox, Evelyn stopped pacing, her fist clenching with anger. "Nothing. She's been blocking me since we last spoke. Although I doubt she knows she's doing it."

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about her powers. As much as I would love to bring her here, she was a little apprehensive about our last conversation, and has put up a shield around herself since she left, and if you hadn't noticed she's very powerful, more so than me."
