Bonnie scanned the angry crowd before her.
"You're gonna pay for this!" A man's furious voice pierced through the chaotic atmosphere.
"We want revenge!" Another shouted. The collective anger of the crowd was palpable.
Bonnie struggled to make sense of the situation unfolding before her. What on earth was happening? She had just returned from a day at work, and the last thing she expected was to come home to this. It hadn't even crossed her mind.
Bonnie closed her eyes, muttering a low chant to cloak herself from the crowd. She awkwardly pushed her way through the crowd.
As she approached the door, an invisible barrier pushed her back. She nearly stumbled to the ground.
Suddenly, it struck her. "The back door."
Bonnie sprinted to the back of the mansion, her chest rising and falling with each rapid breath. Damn it. I should really hit the gym. Despite her being slim, Bonnie knew she wasn't fit. And, for a witch who used massive amounts of magic that would barely tire her, it shocked her that running was her weakness.
She peered through the glass doors, spotting all the siblings gathered in the foyer. Bonnie pounded on the door, trying to get their attention.
Hayley was the only one who heard Bonnie's banging, even though the others were literal vampires. She raced to the door and pulled on the handle that refused to budge. "Freya!"
The siblings swiveled their attention toward Hayley and then caught sight of Bonnie. Kol's eyes widened as he took in the unexpected return of his girlfriend. And just by looking at her through the class, he could tell that she was livid.
Bonnie seemed to catch Kol's stare and returned the glare with narrowed eyes. Kol, a nervous wreck, quickly turned around and stared into space.
"If I undo the spell, everyone out there will come storming in," Freya said.
Bonnie realized Freya was right. "What do we do then?"
"I don't know. Try walking through the door," Freya suggested.
Bonnie scoffed. "That's not even possible," she retorted.
They weren't the witches portrayed in movies, soaring on broomsticks. No, they were real witches, beings whose powers were bestowed upon them by the earth, created by a higher power. And walking through a door was something they could not do.
Bonnie thought hard, her mind racing through the spells she knew. And, finally, one came to her. She mentally thanked her grandmother for all those torturous days of learning spell after spell. It came in handy now.
"Ever heard of a dispelling spell?" Bonnie asked.
Freya shook her head.
"It might weaken the barrier just enough for me to slip through, but I can also suppress your magic temporarily to avoid drawing attention," she explained.
Freya sighed, nervous about this whole plan, but she trusted Bonnie. "Fine. Just be quick."
Bonnie nodded before closing her eyes. She whispered a soft chant and waved her hand along the barrier. Quickly, Bonnie slipped through the partially opened door as the barrier was now quivered while also being mindful of maintaining the diversion.
Bonnie exhaled deeply and slapped her hands to the side as she glared at everyone in the room, smiling. "Didn't expect me, huh?" Her eyes then landed on Kol. "Kol. Kitchen. Now." She stomped to the kitchen, her heels clanking on the tile.
