"Our first destination today is a guided tour around the sustainability exhibits here before we will have a picnic," the teacher in charge explained. "KCPians, do you have your snacks and drinks to share with your friends?" We all chorused "yes" before we entered the sustainability exhibitions for our first activity of the day.
Sustainability exhibition
Stepping foot into the dimly lit room, I couldn't help but gasp in awe. The walls of this place were decorated with many walls of words describing the sustainability scene in Singapore. There was even a screen sticking the sustainability scene right here in Singapore! My friends and I sat down in front of the screen as our guide went through the different parts of sustainability and we took down notes in our booklets diligently, immersing ourselves in the guided tour fully.

Laying the mats down, our Japanese friends soon showed off their bubble sticks and kites. Some of them blew into their bubble sticks and created colourful bubbles that floated around in the sky. The rest all got their kites up and let them soar in the sky. I didn't have a kite, so I asked my Japanese friends to share the bubble sticks with me and they agreed, so I had a lot of fun blowing into the bubble sticks till my lungs wanted to give out on me.

Our teachers soon called us for lunch, and it was a perfect mixture of Singaporean and Japanese snacks and food. I shared some ice gem biscuits with my Japanese friends, while my Japanese friends brought some mochi from Japan for us to try. It was a time where my heart felt warm and my body felt light, as we enjoyed snacks and chatted with one another about our school lives in our home countries.

"Your country used to trade too?" My exchange buddy and her friends chorused. I nodded, startled by their energy, before turning back to the exhibit. In front of me was a shining porcelain bowl, blue flowers embedded on it. My head was filled with so many questions. How did they manage to preserve an ancient artefact for this long? I was a Singaporean, and at that moment, it felt like I didn't know enough about the country I lived in. I used to think they transported goods like furniture and the like, but never in this close detail like at that moment.

Yet, being dismissed from lessons around 9am felt all was worth it. I was able to immerse everyone in a world some might be familiar and some might not. It was also a much needed breather from my 8 subject life and the musical rehearsals. Well...just one more day of fun tomorrow and it's back to hitting the books and rehearsing for the musical.
