Crystal's POV
"Honestly, I wasn't expecting to get accommodation this fast," I told Chloe. "Surely, we tried reaching to Jennifer, but who thought she'd accept our offer this fast?"
"And she looks like she's all ready if she said 'You can move in this weekend,'" Chloe remarked back. We thought back to the conversation we had with Jennifer since we asked her about the issue.
Flashback
Crystal's room
A few days back
"I'm really sorry to hear about your situation," Jennifer said sympathetically on the phone. "You know what? I don't want you guys to suffer in an orphanage. My singer mother has been to one and conditions really aren't ideal. I'll talk to my mother to see if we can accept you two."
"You're kidding, right?" I replied monotonously, but solely out of shock.
"Of course not! Remember, Jennifer never lies. Only tells the truth. If all goes well, expect another call from me tomorrow!"
Present day
Outside Jennifer's house
"Hello, you must be Jennifer's classmates," a young lady with curly hair said, quick to shake Chloe's hands. But before she could actually shake them, I remembered Chloe was an introvert so I stopped her mother, but she was quick to jump back to her feet.
"Oh dear, Jean got carried away! Yes, that's my name and I'll be your mother from now on. I follow you so I don't need to get to you, but what's your name, sweetie?"
"I'm Chloe."
"Chloe! Your parents gave you such beautiful names, but such a letdown they couldn't be this nice. Come, let me let you in."
Crystal's new house
The whole interior of the living room was a palace. The floor was carpeted in red, there was a huge chandelier in the middle and there were potted plants scattered all over. And ascending down the stairs...was a maid? Not a helper, but a maid like the one you see in Sofia the First? Am I in Sofia the First?
"Good morning girls, welcome to the Leau family," the maid warmly told us. "I understand losing one parent to death and another to conviction must be a very painful time, so we have decided to give up the guest bedroom for you two. I'll show you where." We were led to the guest bedroom, and when we swung the door open, our jaws dropped. The walls were polished with white marble and the floor was a clean auburn. Our bed was a queen size bed with pink comforters and white pillows. As for our study tables, they were also a polished white. If you told me this was a guest bedroom before my arrival, I wouldn't have believed you. Too much effort was put into this.
"Ma'am, I do not have a closet to store my clothes," I told the maid candidly. "Am I supposed to give them to you?"
"No-no," my new mother said, wagging her finger. "This household does things a little differently." She took me by the hand and gestured Chloe to follow her, taking us up to the second floor and to a room titled "Paradise." She opened the door and turned on the lights. I swear I could've fainted there and then!
The room was stacked with closet doors everywhere. As my mother led us in, she opened the doors of every closet and shiny, luxurious clothing just spawned everywhere. Shiny leotards, shiny prom dresses...and even regular clothes. I swear, teenager clothes like long shirts and pants shone even brighter in this condition. Heck—even pyjamas?! I always knew Jennifer was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she must've been hiding all these secrets behind her humble front!
Before properly unpacking, we decided on having a guided tour with every room in the house. At some point, it felt a little repetitive because every room had to have something made out of marble or rug, wall or floor. Yet some rooms just went with regular tiling and wallpapers, which made me relieved because it assured me my new mother was trying to get her daughter to be down to earth despite everything. And she's proud of her house too. Every time she opened a door, she used grandiose language to describe every room, making us anticipate our new home. This means I shouldn't have too big a problem adjusting!
