Anika's POV
Germany
And we're back...to 6am.
Navigating through the airport, I felt something I never felt before: Jet lag. Mr Lee was nice enough to provide everyone a pamphlet about German culture, so I was reading about the food I was going to eat. Not like I could do anything about it, because we were going to follow Mr Lee's itinerary, and our first destination was the hotel and then the school. Oh well, the only thing I even have control of at this point was the food.
Realschule
"What the sigma," I mumbled to myself when Dorothy brought me to her club, the tennis club. Fortunately, the people there were very understanding towards me and I was able to experience the full thing in a German tennis club. Even some seniors set some time aside for me to show me the ropes of tennis and I played in a friendly match after that! If only Singapore was bigger and offered tennis, because I love tennis.
The next day
Munich Marienplatz
"Oohs" and "aahs" filled the tour group as we walked down the corridor of Munich Marienplatz. This place felt as rural as a cottage, the materials all around me invoking nostalgia. Mr Lee clumsily forced all the knowledge that he acclaimed through his prior research, and we listened in to his rambling as we scanned our surroundings, our shoes stepping on the brick floor. It felt like a scene fresh out of Beauty and the Beast!
Day 3
Cologne Cathedral
When I entered the cathedral, I swear my jaw dropped. This whole place was sacred! Rugged floor, marble chairs...the tour guide took over Mr Lee's job of explaining as he believed "getting the staff to do it would do the religious some justice." We gasped in awe as the staff guided us and Mr Lee's sauntered behind, as the staff showed us the art pieces inside the cathedral, sharing the meaning of each of the artworks. As someone that isn't always this up close to art, this was definitely a change in pace from all the questions I was forced to do on a daily.
Day 4
Black Forest
"Alright, we're picking mushrooms?!" Some of my juniors said in shock. "What the fuck?"
I giggled and looked out for all the dull mushrooms. Taking the pliers from Mr Lee, I cut the mushrooms from the ground and threw the mushrooms into my basket. As they fell on the basket, I smiled as I dropped the pliers into the basket and picked the basket up, ready to harvest more new mushrooms. After all, this is a biology experience you can only get in Germany!
Day 5
Munich Airport
The cashier scanned the German music box I got for the Ong twins and a box of German chocolates for the whole of 8 point compass to share. Thanking her, I received the plastic bag and left for the departure hall with a heavy heart. I have learnt something that only Crystal would be able to experience on a normal day, and did things I could only do in Germany. I'm so thankful I seized the moment when I was able to go to Germany. Because doing that made me learn new things about the world I would never be able to if I was Chloe!
