Mrs Raine: For our school's learning finale, we are going to be holding a speech competition. As the president of Spin Doctors, you will be closing your term as president with this competition.

John: So, I'm going to represent 3 Faith in the competition?

Mrs Raine: Yes. Remember, the prepared speech is about the most underrated superpower. I wish you luck.

John: Thanks.
Present day
My childhood friend from 3 Joy was definitely going, and the representative for 3 Love was Keira. 3 Peace was represented by Fiona Tan. Everyone looked like they were born for this competition, while I wormed my way through to even get chosen. But whatever, I need to show them who was the real winner. Propoganda is the most underrated superpower, and I was going to show that through my speech!

The auditorium was bustling with excitement as everyone discussed among themselves who would be the winner. Participants' hearts were all beating in anticipation as we hoped for the best for the competition, the coveted first prize. The emcee of the contest announced, "Good morning Stream 1 Sec 3s of Kallang Christian Private! Today, we are going to be holding our first speech competition since 2022. Our five participants have risen up to the occasion, so we're starting with John from 3 Faith!"

I stepped out and started to speak about the power of propaganda. Trying to vary my intonation, I took an extra step forward to look at my audience, making sure my words came out crystal clear to everyone in the audience. This was especially for students that took elective geography, who don't have a clue about Hitler and his relationship with propaganda. The words just came out of my mouth, but everything made sense. I knew everyone in the auditorium understood I was saying, and that first place was imminent.
Lucas' POV
Emcee: Before we announced the placing of the finalists, who wants to take a wild guess of the finalists?

Iris: KEIRA

Teddy: FIONA TAN

The rest of 8 point compass save Crystal and Ethan: JOHNNNN

Emcee: Who said John?

Lucas: I did.

Emcee: Thank you. That is in fact, our first finalist.

3 Faith: LETS GOOOOOO

Emcee: Our next contestant is...Keira!
Keira springs out of her seat and does a peace sign for everyone
Emcee: Our last contestant turned finalist shall be...David from 3 Joy! And with our three finalists announced, we're going to announce the topic: Why should teenagers rule the world? You have 1 minute to prepare your speeches. Out you go!
Outside the hall
John's POV 
John, Keira, David: Black and white!

Mrs Raine: David is black, so he's out.

John + Keira: Scissors paper stone!

Mrs Raine: Keira is scissors, John is paper. Since John lost, John will go after David. Keira's last.

Standing around, I thought long and hard about why youths should rule the world. Then all the flashbacks came back to me...how we were young and could pursue our talents at full capacity, how we care for our friends and how we're at our prime to make a change. As I remembered everything, I found a way to phrase it to make it sound original and contained examples from me and my friends.

The door soon opened, and I was beckoned into the auditorium once more. I grabbed the microphone from wMrs Raine and dashed into the auditorium once more, ready to give a speech with passion and emotion.
Lucas' POV
"I'm sure deep down, we all care for our community some way or another," John said with passion. "How many of you have made the effort to go to your friend's house to deliver worksheets when they're absent from school?" I decided to raise my hand on his behalf, Nicole for Ethan and Crystal. Yet, he wasn't screaming like an incoherent kid. He was articulating his thoughts properly like an adult at a presentation, and I couldn't be happier.
John's POV
"And first place, by the rule of elimination, is John!"

Screaming, I ran to the front where everyone was applauding and cheering for me louder than ever in my life. My heart felt more tender than ever as the hall was cheering me on for my achievement. I felt as bright as the lights in the auditorium as I received my prize. The rest of the compass gathered around me to congratulate me; even Mrs Nur and Mrs Raine! This was the best moment in 2024!
