Crystal's POV
Parade Square
"As you sing the national anthem and recite the national pledge, observe the national flag with your eyes," the emcee announced, while I got the flag ready to raise. "The red part of our flag represents universal brotherhood and equality of man. White symbolises pervading and everlasting purity and virtue. The crescent moon represents a young nation on the ascendant, and the five stars depict Singapore's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality."
The national anthem played, and I was soon raising the flag with confidence. As I let the flag ascend to the top, what kept me on beat was all the time sacrificed on Ethan's part to show me the ropes of a routine only performed by the student councillors. The time I had to raise a flag after a moment of emotional duress pushed me to stay on beat. Because if I was able to raise a flag after receiving news that I had failed a subject I usually did well, I would definitely be able to raise the flag at any time, any day, any mood!
Anika's POV
Auditorium
"You get your IC now?" Dorothy asked in envy. "I have to wait for another year! Lucky you!"
"Well, I guess it's not that bad," I admitted. "You get exposure to getting one now. And maybe this will make you a more responsible IC user. I mean, what we can and can't do with the IC is the same worldwide I think." Mdm Yeo then went up to me and presented me my IC, a pink card which had all my details on it. I'm finally a real Singaporean, and I must keep this in my wallet to remind me of that.
The rest of 8 point compass rushed down to meet me, and asked Dorothy to use my phone as the base for a group photo. She agreed and we all gathered together, showing off our ICs (except Crystal and Chloe thanks to a last minute name-change). When she returned the phone, we took a moment to compare each other's ICs and comment on how we looked in our ICs. As for the photo we took, we all decided to make it our group chat icon since we couldn't publicly post the photo. It's not that bad, because some moments just aren't meant for the world, and that's fine.
Nicole's POV
When the emcee announced that Choir was going to perform, I walked onto the steps of the stage and got ready. Our conductor soon gave us the cue, and picked up her hands. We all broke into song, each of our voices gelling into one. Yet, we never forgot our individuality while singing. For me, I made sure my voice remained cheerful yet powerful. It brightened my heart to see everyone sing along with us, and that's when I realised the extra practices alongside the musical was worth it. Hopefully, I'll do just as well for the musical.
