Shadows from the Old World
Three years had passed.
That day, the sky was clear and blue. A gentle breeze swept through the wide open meadow, rustling the grass that stretched endlessly in every direction. I lay back on the soft ground, gazing up at the cloudless sky above.
This place... has always been my favorite spot to escape the hustle and bustle of life. The wind here is always so comforting—soothing my weary soul.
For the past three years, I’ve been completely consumed by the work of rebuilding. Infrastructure across the entire empire has been completed. Railroads now connect every kingdom, and the Empire of Arcrion has flourished—growing faster than I ever imagined.
“Haaah…” I let out a deep sigh, filling my lungs with the crisp, clean air.
The dream I’ve always held… has finally become reality. Humans and monsters now live side by side in peace. What once seemed like a foolish fantasy has become possible—through perseverance and hard work.
“Well then… time to head back.”
Upon returning to the castle, a familiar figure was already waiting at the gate. Valac—my trusted general—stood with a grave expression.
I walked inside and took my seat on the throne.
“What’s the matter, Valac?”
His face was tense. Without hesitation, he reported his findings.
“Avrora-sama. While I was on patrol, I spotted a strange object flying high in the sky. I’m not exactly sure what it was, but... it looked like a bird—made of metal!”
I froze for a moment. My eyes narrowed as I tried to process what he meant.
“A bird... made of iron?” I murmured. “Could it be… a plane? No, that’s impossible. There shouldn't be airplanes in this world.”
“Did you see where it was headed?”
“It was flying east,” Valac replied firmly.
I nodded slightly. “Thank you for the information, Valac.”
“With your permission, I’ll take my leave.” He bowed before returning to his post.
As soon as he left, I called upon a presence that had helped me time and time again.
“Ai-chan, can you track that strange object?”
“Hehehe~ Leave it to me!” came her cheerful voice from my magical interface.
After a short pause, Ai-chan returned with good news.
“Hehehe~ Avrora, I’ve found it!”
“Great. Open a portal and take me there.”
“Ryōkai~ hihihi~”
A portal of shimmering light opened before me. I stepped through, and in an instant, I found myself in an entirely different place.
And what I saw took my breath away.
“This… is a kingdom? And… it’s modern?!”
Towering metal buildings, glowing electric lights, mechanical vehicles—none of this technology belonged to this world. I immediately cloaked myself in invisibility magic and slipped into the mysterious city.
Inside one of the information centers, I discovered the name of this place: The Eastern Empire.
“When did they establish an empire like this?”
Then, my eyes caught a glimpse of something—no, someone—familiar. The uniforms… their language…
“Those are… Japanese soldiers?! No way…!”
I followed them in secret until they entered an underground laboratory.
And there, I froze.
Fighter jets. Tanks. Heavy weapons.
“What…? Why are they here in this world?!”
My thoughts raced back to my time on Earth.
“The black hole…”
I remembered them researching that strange black void on Earth. Could it be… they succeeded in opening a passage to this world? If my assumption is right, they came through that hole. But then—when did they arrive? And why are they allied with the Eastern Empire?
What is their true intention?
“I can’t ignore this. I need to keep an eye on them closely…”
With a fiery determination in my heart, I decided to return for now—and begin planning my next move.
