Father and Daughter

Two figures clashed in the heart of a silent forest. Viad and Avrora—moving so fast that the naked eye couldn’t keep up. From a distance, Rose could only hear the rapid clash of weapons, echoing through trees that began to collapse from the force of their battle.

“So fast... I can’t see them at all,” Rose whispered, gripping her weapon tightly.

In my thoughts, I couldn’t hide my amazement.
Who is this man?
He’s matching my speed... somehow, this is fun.
For the first time, I felt truly alive.

We stopped. Our breathing was calm, but the tension between us was tangible.

Viad grinned, his eyes gleaming with challenge.
“So this is the power of a Demon King? But it seems like you’re still holding back. You haven’t gone all out yet, have you?”

I frowned.
“Your words are irritating. That was just a warm-up. Now, I’ll kill you for real.”

I released my dark aura. The air trembled. The ground cracked beneath my feet. His eyes widened for a brief moment.

What terrifying power... This is her true strength, Viad thought.

But he didn’t back down. He released his own dark aura, thickening the air around us—heavier, darker, more suffocating.

He attacked first. I dodged easily and instantly appeared behind him.
“You're slow.”

I landed a heavy blow that sent him crashing into the trees. Trunks cracked and toppled as his body slammed through them.

Tch… So this is her real power.
Viad stood up slowly, bloodied but still smiling.

I walked toward him, my eyes cold and sharp.
“Now you see the difference in our strength.”

But he showed no fear.
“Then kill me. Right here, right now.”

If I die, I’ll be free from Ryuka. I’ve longed for a death like this... I’m sorry, Eilaria. I couldn’t keep my promise to you.
He braced himself.

“Why do you look so pathetic?” I muttered.
“But I don’t care. I’m ending this.”

“That’s what I was hoping for.”

I raised my scythe, ready to strike—but—

“Avrora-sama, wait!” Rose shouted, running toward us.

Annoyed, I glanced at her.
“What do you think you’re doing, Rose? Getting in my way?”

“Please... forgive him! I beg you!”

My eyes narrowed.
“Who is he? Do you know him?”

Rose nodded slightly.
“He’s Viad... the man I once told you about. Please... spare him.”

I froze. The world seemed to stop.

Viad...? Then he’s—

“Hey, why are you hesitating? If you're going to kill me, hurry up already,” Viad said bitterly.

I clenched my teeth, emotion surging.
“You worthless... SCUM!”

My punch sent him flying once more. He coughed, blood dripping from his lips.

“Ughh... Why aren’t you finishing me off? Or are you planning to torture me?”

“Why didn’t you go to her?!” I screamed.
“Why didn’t you return to Queen Eilaria?! She... she waited for you all this time!”

Viad fell silent.
“You... know her? Who are you, really?”

“That doesn’t matter. What matters is—I despise cowards like you.”
