A Guest from the Past and the Sword of Betrayal
After the massive visit from the people of the Neverland Kingdom, the scenery in Valdead changed drastically. Many chose to stay behind—some even settling down permanently. A few opened shops, became merchants, or started small businesses that enriched life in the capital.
Of course, I didn’t just let everything run wild. Immigrants from other kingdoms were subject to a special tax. But seeing humans and demons living side by side without fear… warmed my heart.
The world I had dreamed of was finally starting to become real.
---
Meanwhile, far in the south...
After receiving an order from Demon King Ryuka, Alden and Zen flew toward Valdead atop a dragon. Before reaching their destination, they stopped in front of an ancient labyrinth—a legendary place rumored to house a sacred weapon.
“I want that sword,” Alden said, eyes burning with desire.
With their current strength, reaching the 100th floor was no challenge. There, planted firmly in the ground, stood a massive sword radiating a terrifying aura.
“Do you mind if I take it?” Alden asked.
Zen shrugged. “Go ahead. I don’t like big swords.”
Alden gave a sharp smile. “Good. Now... it’s time to hunt.”
---
At the gates of Valdead
“We’re almost there. Remember the plan—act sweet in front of Avrora,” Alden whispered.
Zen nodded. “Of course. Killing her will be easier once she lets her guard down.”
But upon arrival, they were stopped by Gamon, the head guard.
“You’ve been granted a pardon by Lady Avrora. What’s your reason for coming here?”
“We just want to see an old friend,” Alden replied with a fake smile.
Gamon narrowed his eyes but finally nodded. “Very well. I’ll escort you.”
---
Inside the palace, in Avrora’s private garden
I was sitting on a swing when Gamon rushed in.
“Lady Avrora, two male guests have arrived. Your old friends... Alden and Zen.”
My eyes widened. “Really? It’s been so long... Alright, I’ll go meet them.”
But before I could stand, Ai-chan spoke inside my mind.
“Avrora, be careful. I sense malice.”
“Eh? They’re old friends. Maybe you’re mistaken.”
“Well, don’t blame me if something happens.”
I gave a nervous laugh. “Fine, fine. I’ll be careful.”
---
In the audience hall, Alden and Zen greeted me with friendly faces.
“Long time no see, Avrora,” Alden said, shaking my hand.
“Forgive us. I hope you don’t hate us,” Zen added.
I smiled. “Of course not. I’m actually happy to see you both. By the way, where’s Liza?”
“She had something to take care of,” Alden replied quickly.
We chatted for a while until Alden said, “I’d like to see your new city.”
“Sure. I’ll give you a tour.”
---
We rode a magic carriage around Valdead. They were amazed by the city, which was full of magical technology.
“Incredible... You built all this?” Zen asked.
“I only designed and led the project. The brilliant workers built it,” I replied.
But midway through the ride, my body suddenly jerked.
What… is this?
A magic seal spread through my body, locking my movements. I couldn’t move.
“Zen!” I yelled. “Release this seal!”
Zen chuckled. “You’ve become too confident, Avrora.”
Alden drew the sacred sword and stabbed it straight into my stomach without hesitation.
“URGH!”
Blood gushed from my body. Pain surged through every nerve.
“Why... are you doing this?”
“Revenge,” Alden growled. “You killed my brother. And this sword... can kill demons like you.”
---
The commotion drew the attention of my guards—and Leon.
He rushed to my side, catching my weakening body.
“Avrora!” Leon shouted.
I gave him a faint smile.
“Onii-sama... please protect the kingdom for me.”
“No! Don’t die!”
Meanwhile, Alden and Zen grinned in satisfaction.
But just before everything faded to black—
“My daughter, how long are you going to pretend to be dead?” Viad’s voice rang out.
I opened my eyes and sat up, yanking the sword out of my stomach.
“Caught me, huh? I just wanted to see Leon cry a little longer.”
Leon flushed. “You... are the worst.”
I let out a soft laugh and turned to Alden and Zen.
“With a cheap sword like this, you really thought you could kill me?”
They both took a step back, disbelief on their faces.
“You… monster...” Zen whispered.
---
In the distance…
Ryuka clenched his teeth. “Tch… useless!”
He activated the magic crystals implanted in Alden and Zen’s bodies.
Suddenly, dark energy burst from them. Their screams turned inhuman. Their bodies mutated… transforming into monstrous beasts. Their eyes glowed red, muscles expanded, and their humanity vanished.
“What’s happening?!” I shouted.
“They’re transforming… into monsters,” Ai-chan said. “It’s because of the magic crystals from the Western Demon King! If we don’t destroy them, they’ll die!”
“Tch… Ryuka. Him again.”
I clenched my fist.
“I’ll deal with him later. But for now... I have to save them!”
