Gate to the Old World

Today, I was deeply immersed in advanced magic research. My goal was simple, yet far from easy—to find a way back to my original world. Specifically, Earth.

“Oi, Ai-chan,” I called out, gazing at the floating magic crystal. “If I use space-time magic... is it possible for me to return to my original world?”

A sharp but cute voice replied, “Do you really want to go back there, Avrora?”

“I don’t plan to stay. There’s just something I need to do.”

“Alright... I’ll try matching the coordinates of your home world. But the chance of success is only twenty percent.”

“Seriously?! Still, I believe in you, Ai-chan!”

“Hehe... leave it to me!”

[Failed… Failed… Failed…]

Failure messages flashed one after another. It seemed hopeless.

“I found it, Avrora,” Ai-chan said, her voice sounding more serious than usual.

“EHHH?! After so many failures, it worked?! You’re amazing, Ai-chan!”

“But... to reach it, we’ll have to break the laws of nature once more. Are you prepared to face the System again, like last time?”

I looked at the crystal with determination.

“As long as you’re with me, Ai-chan, I’m not afraid. Just like before—you’re my weapon.”

“Heh~ So confident. Alright then, let’s do this.”

With Ai-chan’s power, we challenged the System once more. Working together, we broke through its defenses and created a portal to Earth.

“Yosh! Great job, Ai-chan! So, can we go to Earth now?”

“Of course. But—” Ai-chan sighed, “It’s a long way and requires a huge amount of energy. And on Earth, there’s no mana. You’ll become an ordinary human until your magic recharges.”

“That’s fine. Earth is peaceful. I won’t need magic there anyway.”

“...Alright. If that’s your decision.”

I stepped into the portal. My body was flung into the air and—

“Owwww…” I groaned, slowly getting up from the asphalt road.

Looking around, my eyes widened.

“Waaa… It’s real?! Japan?! I’m really back!”

Ai-chan’s voice echoed in my mind, “So this is your original world… I’ve only seen it through your memories.”

“Yeah… Thank you, Ai-chan.”

“So, where to now?”

I scratched my head. “First… I need a place to stay. But… crap. I forgot! I don’t have any money here!”

“How about going back to your old home?”

“Impossible… They won’t recognize me. I can’t exactly say I’m Yuu. After all, Yuu… is already dead in this world.”
