Shadows from the Past

I never expected it... Yuki is in this world. How could she be in another world—worse yet, as part of the Eastern Empire? I truly don’t understand.

Yuki was preparing to fire her second shot.

I shouted immediately, “W–wait! Yuki, it’s me!”

BAMM!

Too late. A blast of laser energy struck the ground near me. I dodged it just in time, but...

Tch! That girl… has she forgotten who I am?

Chimeries darted forward without hesitation, charging straight at Yuki.

SWOOSH!

“Wait, Chimeries!” I shouted, rushing in to intercept her.

Chimeries was caught off guard when her sword was blocked by my scythe.

“What are you doing, Avrora?! Why are you stopping me?!”

“Wait. Let me explain!” I said quickly.

But Yuki fired another laser blast in our direction.

BAMMM!

We dodged again. Dust and shockwaves filled the air.

“This is what happens when you hesitate! We need to eliminate her now!” Chimeries said sternly.

“Sorry... But there’s something I need to confirm with her.”

“Avrora, we don’t have time! We need to rescue my people now!”

I clenched my teeth. She was right. Our top priority today was to save the captives, not to confront my past.

“...Fine. I’ll talk to her another time.”

Without delay, I opened a portal right behind Yuki.

“Sorry, Yuki. For now... you have to go.”

In an instant, Yuki was sucked into the portal.

“What did you do to her?” Chimeries asked, still surprised.

“I moved her somewhere else. Come—we need to rescue the prisoners!”

---

We arrived at the prison. In the distance, Imperial forces were approaching.

I glanced at Chimeries. “Handle them. I’ll transfer the prisoners to my kingdom.”

“Understood, Avrora!”

Chimeries charged into battle, repelling the enemies that kept pouring in. Meanwhile, I moved from cell to cell, opening portals and evacuating the captives one by one to Valdead.

After finishing, Chimeries and I exited the prison and rejoined the main force.

The battle was still fierce. Our soldiers were fighting enemies armed with advanced weapons.

I observed from afar. “Those weapons… are dangerous. What kind of technology is this?”

Suddenly, a girl with long white hair appeared. With a swift motion, she activated an anti-magic barrier.

Instantly, all magic from our troops was disabled.

I stared at the girl. “Tch! Who is she? She’s using both magic and technology. This is going to be a problem…”

I turned to Chimeries. “We need to act now!”

SWOOSH!

I soared into the sky and shattered the anti-magic barrier with a single slash.
