The Night That Was Supposed to Be Peaceful

That day, after school, I only wanted one thing.
Sleep.

After being humiliated all day for earning the nickname “Sleeping Angel,” it felt like half of my soul had already left my body.
All I could think about was my bed.

But the moment I opened my bedroom door—

“Welcome home, Lady Avrora!”

Lora’s cheerful voice greeted me, her face glowing with the kind of energy you’d expect from someone who just drank three cups of coffee.

“Why do you look more alive than me today…” I muttered weakly.

Lora approached with a beaming smile. “I heard from Rafael-kun that you fell asleep in class and got a new nickname! Kyaaa~ how adorable!”

“Don’t say that again!” I yelped. “I’m still traumatized!”

Lora covered her mouth, trembling as she tried not to laugh. “S-sorry… but seriously, the whole castle’s talking about it. Even the guards said, ‘Our princess has such artistic sleeping talent!’”

“...Artistic sleep my fangs!”

I wanted to disappear from the face of the earth. But since I couldn’t, I just buried my face in my pillow.

“Enough. I’m going to sleep,” I said finally. “You can go now, Lora.”

But Lora stared at me suspiciously, like she was confronting a criminal. “Are you really going to sleep?”

“Of course. I swear it upon the name of this kingdom.”

She squinted. “You said the same thing yesterday… before I caught you playing games until dawn.”

“...That was yesterday.”

“And this morning, you said the exact same thing.”

I sighed, staring at the ceiling. “Lora, if you don’t believe me, you can stand guard outside my room. I won’t touch my games.”

She nodded proudly. “Very well, I’ll trust you this time.”

Once she left, I let out a long sigh. “Fuh… finally, peace.”

Then my eyes drifted toward the desk.
My beloved gaming PC sat there, glowing like a treasure chest.

“...Just one more round won’t hurt, right?”

And so, the great war between my will to sleep and the temptation of gaming began once again.

A Silent Night (Or Maybe Not)

Fifteen minutes later, the quiet castle room had turned into a virtual battlefield.

“You stupid dragon! Stop spinning in circles!”

I gripped my controller tightly, eyes blazing with the determination of a front-line soldier.

That’s when—knock knock knock!

The sound of knocking froze me in place.
Panicking, I shut off the screen and shoved the controller under my pillow.

“Lady Avrora, are you still awake?”
Angelia’s voice. Oh no.

“I-I’m sleeping!” I blurted out.

Silence.
Then the door slowly creaked open.

Angelia stepped in, her cold gaze sharp enough to freeze boiling water.
