Sabo
The library in Baltigo's eastern wing smelled like old paper and dust, it made your nose itch, and settled into your bones after enough afternoons spent shelving reports nobody else wanted to touch. You had a stack of them balanced against your hip, half a dozen supply ledgers from the last quarter.

It had apparently been decided that they needed reorganising by date rather than by district, which meant you were the one who got to fix it. Koala had been trailing behind you for the better part of twenty minutes, her heeled boots clicking against the stone floor in a rhythm that was starting to grate on your nerves.

Every time you thought she'd finally given up and wandered off, she reappeared at the end of whatever aisle you'd ducked into, arms crossed, grinning like she knew something you didn't. "I really don't have time for this right now" you muttered, not even glancing over your shoulder as you slid a ledger into its slot on the shelf.

"Ivankov wants these done before the meeting, and if I have to listen to Sabo complain about disorganised paperwork one more time, I'm going to shelve him next". "You secretly enjoy fixing his messes" Koala hummed, hopping up to sit on the edge of a nearby reading table, swinging her legs like she had absolutely nowhere better to be. "It's kind of sweet, actually. The way you two work".

"There is no 'we'" you corrected, sharper than you meant to, though your tone did nothing to deter her. "There is me, doing my job, and him, making my job harder. That's the entire relationship".

Koala tilted her head, watching you with the kind of patient amusement that always made you nervous, like she was building up to something. You should have known better than to keep talking near her when she had that look. You kept walking anyway, ledger in hand, towards the next gap in the shelves.

"Have you ever noticed" she started, her voice deceptively casual, "how Sabo finds you first? Like, in a room full of people, every time, he's so in love with you". "WHAT?!". The word came out of you far louder than any library had ever been designed to withstand, and it echoed off the high shelves with an embarrassing amount of enthusiasm, bouncing back at you from at least three directions.

The ledger in your hands slipped, its corner catching against the edge of the shelf before it clattered onto the floor in a splay of loose papers. "Shh!" Koala hissed through her own badly suppressed laughter, hopping off the table to help you scoop the scattered pages back together. "It's a library. Keep it down".

"You shouldn't just say things like that" you hissed back, snatching the papers out of her hands before she could help any further, shoving them back into some semblance of order against your chest. "And, it's not true. You're insane, certifiably".
