It was way past the time Sunghoon wanted to be home right now, way past the time he promised Jake he'd at least try to be home. And not just today but over the course of the past 3 weeks, Sunghoon's been stuck at work and coming home way later than he would prefer. At the start of these 3 weeks, Sunghoon was called into his dad's office to be informed that he was gonna be taking his dad's position as CEO of his company. Sunghoon was told it was gonna be a hell of a lot of work getting everything set up and organized. His dad ran a huge fashion company, talking about Sunghoon taking over as CEO since the latter could walk. It was expected for Sunghoon that his life was gonna suddenly get crazy busy.

That night, Sunghoon immediately went home and informed his boyfriend, Jake, about the upcoming changes for the next little bit. The latter wasn't too thrilled about this–he already couldn't spend much time with the other because he was busy enough as it is–but he put on a smile for him. He understood that it'd get much busier while everyone was sorting out this switch but this was only

temporarily, then it'd get calmer–even if things wouldn't be as calm as before. So, Jake pushed his worries away and kept the thought of things eventually getting better.

Over the few weeks, Sunghoon was piled up with a mountain of paperwork, meetings, introductions to new people, presentations, more paperwork, everything. He'd stay back at the company a little later each day, resulting in seeing Jake a little less each day and working a little more each day. Every time Sunghoon was packing up to leave, someone would walk into his office with more work for him to complete. And for today, that exact situation was right about to happen.

"Come in" Sunghoon exclaimed when a knock came from the other side of the door.

The door swung open to reveal Sunghoon's main assistant, Jungwon, and Sunghoon let out a sigh when he noticed the small stack of papers in Jungwon's hands. Exactly what he was expecting.

"What is it now, Jungwon?" he leaned back in his chair, rolling his eyes and twirling a pen in between his fingers.

Jungwon cleared his throat, "There was an emergency meeting planned and you're needed for it. I know you were about to go home so I ca-" the younger started but got interrupted.

"You know what? You're right" Sunghoon sat up straight and leaned forward ever so slightly, "I am about to go home and I thought I was done with work for today. This has been happening way too much this month, Jake's increasingly getting worried for me and I don't enjoy it when he worries like this. So, I'm going home and if I'm absolutely needed then tell them I'll join on call when I'm home but right now, I'm leaving."

Sunghoon stood up, slipping on his suit jacket and brushing past Jungwon to leave with his bag in his hand. The mix of anger and anxiety the young CEO was feeling as he rode the elevator all the way down to the first floor was insane, it seemed as if he showed no emotion. It stayed that way even when the elevator arrived on the ground floor. Stiff and emotionless Sunghoon stepped out of that elevator, crossing through the lobby and outside to where his car was waiting for him in the parking lot.

He tossed his bag into the backseat of his car and slid into the driver's seat, eyes trailing over to the photo of Jake and him taped between the steering wheel and the car's navigation system. Simple and small in dimensions, there wasn't much to the photo in detail and didn't imply there'd be a big attachment but it was one of Sunghoon's favourite photos of the two. One of the last photos taken of the two of them before Sunghoon's schedule took a sudden spike, a time that brought Sunghoon quite a bit of joy every time he saw the photo. Sunghoon even had to forcefully tear his eyes away to focus more on the road, it was too much of a distraction. I mean, any photo of Jake was considered a distraction but this specific one just a little more.
