Four Days Later

"Why am I going?" you stomped down the stairs in your school uniform. You were healed by now, but a lot of the past week has been a blur. Your mom wouldn't tell you anything; all you knew was what the news said.

"Because you're fine now, the injuries are-"

"I'm fine? How the hell am I fine?? You won't let me see the company, Dad's been arrested, and we can't even see him, our argument in the sky is trending right now, this is so embarrassing, and you think I'm fine??" you went off. You didn't understand her insistent nature.

She paused in the kitchen, holding her coffee. Something in that rant struck her, as you could see her holding back tears. Before any could drop, she set down her coffee, rubbed her face, sighed, then walked up to you.

"If you want this to go away, you'll need to act normal, that means going to school like nothing happened." She wouldn't look at you, she couldn't look at you, she just fixed your clothes. Her eyes looked puffy.

"Is something wrong?" She didn't respond to that.

"C'mon, I'll speed you over to school." She grabbed your hand, and you were off.

You went to your class, keeping your hood up and blasting music in your ears. You tried not to notice anyone, but in between each song, you heard directed murmurs.

"Rumor has it, she should've been dead."

"We would've been better off."

"Fucking weirdo."

I just need to make it until lunch, then I can run out. Find Dad myself.

But then, 3rd-period Chemistry came along.

Some of the worst girls were in that class. It was usually tolerable because they would mostly focus their attention on a cute guy near the front of the class. But he wasnt here today. He just had to not be here that day.

You sat all the way at the back of the class. Each class, you had to take off your headphones, so you did. But like magic, those girls appeared in front of you.

It was three of them. Kelly, Shelly, and Margaret. They were fairies.

"Oh, the freak actually came in today." Kelly sat on the desk in front of you.

Shelly followed suit. "Yeah, does she not know what's on the news?"

Margaret, their leader, leaned towards you. "That blast looked bad. Is that why you're so dark, or is that just your regular shade?" She laughed.

Just let it go...

Class was going to start in 10 minutes, but it felt like the longest 10 minutes ever.

"Hey!" She lifted your chin up with her hand, and you quickly pushed it away. "We're talking to you, Midnight." You rolled your eyes.

"Careful, Marge, she might leave a stain." They laughed; it was starting to attract other students in the class. The teacher still wasn't in.

You weren't confrontational at school. You usually just went through the day as quickly as you could so you could get home to the company and your Dad. Everybody thought you were weird, too, so they usually didn't pay you mind. But today...

You tried to put your headphones in, but Margaret snatched them away. It impulsively made you stand up. This intrigued her.

"Oh, what? Are you going to do something?" She was now daggling your headphones in front of you. You tried to keep a straight face before sitting back down, controlling your breathing.
