It was the day you all had to go back to your houses for New Year's. Christmas has already passed. Ochaco was your secret Santa. She gave you a bag of coal, thinking you'd hate it, but you liked coal. Your grandma used to show you ways to use them to fuel the fires in your hands. She also taught you some calming exercises with them. Ochaco got annoyed that it didn't bother you.
You were Tokoyami's, so you made a blackout cloak for him and Dark Shadow. The material was a thick black velvet that was the closest shade to a true black. No light at all could come through. It was like his hero costume, but for everyday wear, especially in this cold weather. Dark Shadow really liked it.
You were in your room calculating measurements for the machines Dabi and Shigaraki asked you to build.
You heard knocking at your door. You closed your journal and walked over to open it to Bakugou.
"Oh, hi, Kat." You smiled and leaned your arm against your door. The door then slid open more, which made you slip. You caught yourself on the door, awkwardly putting back on a smile. You saw a curve in his lip from him trying not to chuckle, didn't really work.
"You seem okay."
"Why wouldn't I be?" You saw him shift his eyes between you and your room, asking with his eyes if he could come inside. You made space for him to, then shut the door.
"We're going home, remember?" He sat in your desk chair. You thought for a second before slouching with a groan. Then you walked over to the end of your bed and flopped back onto it.
"Oh yea... I forgot." You shifted your body to your side to face him and leaned on your arm. You checked your nails as you whispered to yourself. "If I wanted to stay in an empty house for a while, I should just stay here."
"She... probably remembers this time-"
"She never does, Kat..." As you sighed, you felt your hands getting hot. You looked under your desk towards the bag of coal. You sped to your desk and bent down to it. "Could you open the balcony?"
"Why?" He rolled back and opened it. You sat on your bed holding a lump of coal in each palm.
"So the smoke gets out." Then your hands lit on fire before calming down, leaving your glowing red palms to heat up the coal. The smoke was getting around the room but leaving through the balcony.
"What does that do?"
"Blows off steam without having to break anything. It's relaxing. It's just making hot rocks, but they kinda get smooth in my hands the smaller they get." As you spoke, you glanced up to see him quickly pull back his smile.
"Uhh, so," you scoffed at him. "You get hot when you're angry, do you get cold when you're like sad?"
"Pretty much. Do you know how annoying it is to constantly burn through your clothes?"
"I haven't seen any burnt-" you sped to your closet and pulled out a tote bag full of scorched clothes. You placed it in front of him.
"And this is just since November." Bakugou bent down and picked up a purple crochet sweater with a big hole with black and brown edges in the stomach and left arm.
He looked up at you. "Didn't you wear this two weeks ago?"
"Exactly." You grabbed the purple top and the bag and put them back in the corner of your closet. Then you sat back on the bed, facing him. You lit your hands up again with the coals, but then you paused. "Wait, you remember what I wear?"
