Karlie's P.O.V

It's late at night and I've had a long day at College and am about to sit down and enjoy an overdue glass of wine when my phone rings. Heaving out a sigh I lean across the couch to eye the caller on the screen. It shocks me that someone is calling since almost no one expect my family or my manager bothers to call anymore. Gone are the days where I would talk to my friends all the time but I suppose that's my fault. 'Taylor Swift Calling' shows up on my phone as I pick it up making me drop it in shock which causes it to go to voicemail. I let my phone lie on the carpeted floor of my new house in St. Louis until I am sure that, that particular caller has gone away or at least not tried to call again. Looking at the clock on the wall I decide that it's been long enough so I lean over and pick it up. Hitting the home button I see the familiar 'Two Missed Calls' and then a new one 'One New Voicemail' I sigh but I know I have to check it because there is no way to be sure that it wasn't a missed call from my mom, she sometimes does that. I breathe out and then somehow gain the courage to listen to the call.

I unlock my phone and see a picture of my dog Joe on the home screen it makes me smile but then I remember the day that it was taken and quickly decide to change the screen to a plain blue background. It makes me sad that I can't help but think about the past without thinking about that her but if I actually told anyone about the pain and drama that I went through they wouldn't all be sitting in her camp right now, but more fool me for wanting to protect her even when I was hurt. Swallowing harshly I pick up the phone and call the voicemail. "You have one new message..." I sigh and hold on knowing it will start playing soon. "Hi..." her voice almost renders me unable to listen anymore but I hit speaker and her voice radiates out of the small speaker in the back of my Iphone. "...I don't even know if this is your number anymore but I wanted to talk to you. Call me back on this number if you want or you can email if that's more comfortable. I uhm...I guess that's all I called for really." I listen to the space and the linger of her voice makes me wish she would just hang up and just as I think she's about to she talks again. "Look, I have no idea what has happened to us, whether we drifted apart or not but I haven't heard from you in ages and I thought I would call you but maybe you don't want to hear from me anymore and that's fine, but Karls let me know please." I close my eyes and lean back at her saying 'Karl's' everyone knows that's our little special thing we do, just like I call her Tay. I listen to the generic voice say. "End of messages. To hear this message again press one, to call back press two, to delete press three, to save press four..." I look at the phone and think about what to do. My finger hovers over the button before pressing three. I hang up the voicemail call and see my mom also called but instead of calling back I turn off my phone.

Taylor's P.O.V

I hang up the phone after leaving Karlie a lengthy voicemail with no assurance that she will even listen to it but to be honest I'm running out of options at this point. It's been nearly two years since I last saw Karlie, not that I haven't tried but almost everyone has been putting me off seeing her. But here hidden in my parents garage I can't help but wonder why everyone is against me being friends with Karlie. The only people that seem to understand what I'm going through is my family, but they never say anything. My mom, the one person that I always go to for advice is avoiding the topic and after the first six months I gave up asking her for advice at all believing that if she couldn't be honest with me about Karlie then I had to suck it up alone and so that's why this is the first time I've been home in almost eight months. It's not like I'm not busy either but the only reason I am here is because Adam decided that we needed to be here so like everything in my life, I allowed him to force me to come here.

I look around the workshop that dad always uses when he needs to get away from mom and the drama of life in general and it makes me wonder if dad had any idea as to what my life would become, whether he would have let me pursue music at all. Not that I've ever been able to ask him that, especially not now days. Sitting down on the small seat by the workbench where the same sign taking about his grandcats stands proudly and I sigh. "Taylor..." I hear Austin's girlfriend Amelia say from the door. I turn around and smile at her. "Amelia, hi there!" I say with the fakest enthusiasm I've ever used on anyone. I watch her smile sweetly before looking at me and saying, "you don't have to fake it around me. Never." I smile a real smile and look at her. "Much better Taylor."
"I'm sorry for being rude I just need to be alone right now." I tell her as she nods and goes to walk away but then turns back. "If it was me, I would do the same thing as you but I wouldn't settle for a phone call." She states looking at me and for the first time I feel like she really understands me. I nod and she goes to walk away but I stop her just by saying, "Thank-you." I see her smile and then as she walks away I hear her say, "hey Scott, yeah she's back there." I look up as my dad enters the room and shuts the door and the turns to me. "Can we talk?" I nod my head as he sits next to me.
"What's up dad?" I question as he faces me looking pained.
"I need to confess something." He states and I nod letting him talk. "You're always asking why we don't talk to you about Karlie and the thing is that it was originally meant to be to stop you guys hanging out so much and creating a bad image but now it's been so long and I've watched you get more down as time goes on so I need to be honest with you." I nod and say,
"Yeah I've been lost, I don't know what I did to make her back away like she did and none of my friends talk about her or to her anymore. I have no idea why." I watch my dad look around and it hits me that he looks guilty. "Dad?" I question and he looks at me. "Do you know what's going on?" He nods and says, "I do. Your mother and I were never for it but we agreed to it and I'm sorry for that." My mouth drops open, "what did you do?" I question already knowing I'm not going to like what he has to say.
