Taylor's P.O.V

"I can't come Cara, it's only been a few weeks. No one will want me there." I state into the phone as I hold it between my ear and my shoulder while trying to mix the batter for brownies. "Taylor, you need to get over it love. Of course everyone wants you there." She stated back at me. "How do you know that Cara? Have you asked them all?" I questioned not that I would believe her even if she said she had. "No, but come on Tay, they're your friends. They love you no matter what's happened between you and Karlie." I shake my head at the phone that is now on speaker in front of me. "Cara, they were Karlie's friends before they were mine. All those people that she's known since she started to model and they will not want me there so please don't ask me again Cara." I plead praying that she won't but I know Cara too well. "Okay, I know when you don't want to be involved but keep this in mind Taylor. They may have been Karlie's friends first but they became yours along the way too. Don't take it out on us because you don't want to run into Karlie." My mouth drops open in shock because Cara has never spoken to me like that before. "Cara that's not it..." I try to say but Cara speaks over me. "Of course it is Taylor. You and Karlie have been joined at the hip for the last four years and now it's over but don't make us suffer because you two are too pig headed to get your shit together." I open my mouth about to speak but Cara continues, "I gotta go. You know where we will be so if you decide to get your shit together then meet us there. But only if you're sick of hiding your feelings." Then without a warning or even a goodbye she hangs up on me leaving me hanging on the end of the phone wondering why the hell I'm so afraid of running into Karlie. Maybe because then I'd be forced to explain myself rather than just burying my head in the sand like I've been doing for the last three almost four weeks.

Karlie's P.O.V

"So who's gonna be at this little gathering Gigi?" I question while pulling on my high tops.
"Just the group. All the usual ones..." she states as I look up at her and she looks back at me. "Taylor is not going to be there. I doubt she even knows about this gathering and anyway the last time I heard she was in Nashville. What's the chance of her being here in New York of all places. You and I both know she went running home for Nashville a few weeks ago...where she belongs." My heart beats double overtime. "Gigi!" I state shocked that she would say something like that about someone she used to hang out with all the time. Gigi looks at me and then looks away, "I'm sorry Karlie...I didn't mean it like that." She tries to state but I don't really believe her and I no longer feel like going out. I guess the saving grace that I have is that I need to be up early tomorrow morning to go to L.A for a meeting for a new Kookie launch. "It's okay. Let's just go." I state wanting to get to the damn party so that I can then leave. Gigi only nods and we leave quickly after that, I secretly think it's because Gigi was a little embarrassed and she should be, when Taylor and I were still together Taylor would welcome any and all of my modelling friends into the apartment any time they wanted as long as she wasn't in the middle of writing. But even then she would make time later in the day for them. I always appreciated it but now that I see how quickly Gigi cut her down I can't believe that I ever let them anywhere near Taylor if that's the way they want to act.

The ride towards the party in the middle of the city seemed to take forever, this is going to be my first party that I'm going to be single at since before Taylor and I ever started dating, but probably more like before we even met because from day one we were joined at the hip we even went out on the town after that first Victoria's Secret Show. I know we had heaps of fun together and that made us want to hang out together all the time and that constant being together is probably what has led me to the heartbreak that I'm feeling today. I hope that at least as the night goes on that I will slowly get out of my funk but I can't be certain. The drive is silent and for the first time since we broke up I find myself missing Taylor more than I had admitted to in the past few weeks, I've been constantly telling people that I'm okay and that I'm fine but I'm really not. I miss her so much and what makes it worse is that I still love her to death despite the fact that she still hasn't told me why we broke up in the first place, that's the thing that gets to me.

Taylor's P.O.V

As the taxi pulls up outside the party I feel the nerves setting in but Cara is right I can't let the fact that Karlie and I are not together anymore dictate who I can and can't hang out and drink with and now at almost twenty nine I deserve to lay back and have a little fun and at the end of the day if Karlie's friends can't handle that then they can leave. I'm yet to speak to many of them but Cara has assured me that when she last spoke to Karlie, Karlie said she wasn't coming and when I checked our joint calendar at the apartment before I left I saw that she has her meeting for the new launch of her newest Kookie in L.A tomorrow so chances are she isn't even here in New York now so I should be okay with being at this party.

But the moment that I stepped foot into the room and all of Karlie's friends looked at me I realised what a mistake I had made in coming tonight. Sighing I move to turn around and head back outside so I can call security to come back and get me but instead of being able to leave I'm stopped by the sight of Gigi Hadid walking through the door, she freezes and looks at me and her mouth drops open in shock and I'm sure mine does the same but before I can do anything about it I hear a familiar voice, "what's taking so long Gigi, would you get in the door." My legs go weak as I spin around and realise that I'm trapped between two groups of people who probably hate me right now. Gigi has never been a fan of mine and Karlie's friends will all be on her side despite the fact that I've never actually told Karlie the reason why we broke up and to be honest I don't think that she will be very impressed to hear why but I can't let this place be the place that she learns why. "Gigi just move." I hear her say and the minute that I turn around just to see where she is, is the moment that she arrives and as if practiced by us multiple times earlier today we find each other's eyes. "Taylor..." she states and without meaning to I brush past her and almost fully sprint for the door. I feel her turn around and before I can get fully out of her grasp she grabs me and turns me towards her. "Why are you here?" My mouth goes dry and Karlie continues to hold me tight.
"Karlie I have to go, I can't be here." I state but she is having none of it and instead drags me towards a corner. "Tell me why." I look at her and I know exactly what she means so instead of jerking her around some more I tell her exactly why I broke up with her and when I tell her she reels back shocked. "Really..." she states standing and pacing, "and you didn't think to just ask me?" I sit there and for the first time I feel like a total idiot. "I guess not." Karlie simply looks at me and nods. "Okay, well I guess I have my answer. I can't believe that you've been thinking that for the past few weeks but I can't change that. I'll always love you but I have my answer." My heart breaks and shatters into a million pieces all over again as she leaves. "Karlie I'm sorry." I say as she nods her head. "I know you are and so am I but someday you're going to find your person but I just don't believe that person is me." I bow my head and know that despite the fact that we love each other there is too much water under the bridge.

Karlie's P.O.V

Standing I move away from Taylor and all of my friends and as I move towards the door Cara walks up to me and says, "I'm sorry Karlie, you told me you weren't coming. I'm really sorry." I smile at her. "It's not your fault Cara. Enjoy the party. I have to go." I watch Cara smile at me even if it's a sad smile and I can tell that she is upset and has no idea what to think. I look around at all of my 'friends' but all I notice are the looks that are being sent Taylor's way and in that moment I know that although Taylor and I are no longer together that is not an open chance for my so called friends to judge my ex-girlfriend. So when I look back at Taylor and I see the frightened look on her face and I look at the obvious discomfort on her face I make a split second decision and I move back towards her. Holding out my hand she looks at me and I say, "come on, let's get out of the city." Her eyes sparkle at a reference that once helped her write a song and I feel my heart flip flop. She takes my hand and together we leave, our future together uncertain but I'm not worried about it because as I watch her walking next to me and the way her hand fits in mine I just know that this isn't goodbye for us. We are end game.
