Karlie's P.O.V

"Now, I'm free now. Why wait?" I question into my phone while watching Riley play with her outdoor water set that involves a large tub of water. "Okay where do you live?" Taylor questions as my heart begins to race faster and faster. I quickly tell her and she tuts and clicks what I imagine is a pen and then says, "okay see you in twenty..." I nod and then agree and the moment that we hang up I throw my head into my hands and say, "why oh why did I do that?" Riley looks up and waves at me, "mama!" I walk over and see the small bug in the water that was obviously annoying her.  "It's just a bug beautiful, don't worry. See it's all gone..." I coo as Riley nods and goes back to playing. I watch and I can see how much she has changed, she's not fully walking and saying some words like mama, duckie, ju ju which is her juice and also she plays more independently so I don't have to join her as much.

Before I know it the twenty minutes that Taylor had promised me had passed and the doorbell is ringing, Riley drops what she's doing and rushes for the deck stairs and clambers past me. She loves visitors even if it's just the post man or UPS guy. She makes friends wherever she goes which both amazes me and worries me. As Riley approaches the door she pauses and waits for me, before saying, "up mama." I look at her and say,
"Please mama," she only looks at me and I kiss her face. "I guess we will work on that one..." I state opening the door to the familiar long legged blonde and my eyes instantly try to find her tattoo of my name. "Wow, it's so much cleaner in person." I state as Riley squirms so I put her down. I look up and see a look of amazement on Taylor's face as she takes in Riley. "What's up?" I question but she only gestures to Riley and I launch into how I'm her mom but not her biological mom, instead I'm a biological aunt. Taylor seems satisfied with the answer and comes in.

Six Years Later...

I wake up to the smell of strawberries, something I'm accustomed to living under the roof of five girls excluding my wife Taylor. It's been years since that fateful day of Taylor meeting Riley and now Taylor and I have been married for four years of the last six. That day Taylor arrived, she never left. Her and Riley clicked straight away and I loved having someone to come home to after a long shift at the hospital. Taylor has always been really patient about my odd hours and now that I'm close to finishing off and becoming a paediatric doctor she's even more proud. We have five girls now. Riley is the oldest and is now seven, then we have our triplets that we adopted, Maggie, Monique and Michelle and they are five and luckily for us they are at school now which makes life easier. We adopted them and their younger biological sister Peyton almost two years ago. Peyton is now three. At the time I remember thinking that it was out of control to have so many girls under one roof but we make it work and every morning I wake up with Taylor's arm slung over my body, the tattoo that she got with my name has grown and now has several different initials around it. The initials relate to songs that she's written about me or the girls. Her sleeve has gotten more family related with all of the kids names on her arm somewhere which means the world to me.

Taylor herself is now an award winning song-writer and is the main writers for many Nashville based country groups. Her favourite band to write for is Little Big Town and also Tim McGraw and she's just finished writing 'Better Man' for Little Big Town and last night we found out that they plan to use it as soon as possible. Performing it live, they also want Taylor to go onstage in Nashville when they have their opening shows for their tour and perform with them. I know that Taylor is beyond excited.

Often when we are out people who know us will stop us and ask us to tell them our story, to many people we don't fit together. Whether it's due to us being a same sex couple, Taylor's tattoos or job compared with my traditional job of nursing/being a doctor. But I find that all the things that make us different people make me love Taylor more. I love that we are different and if our paths hadn't crossed that day at Nashville General Hospital who knows where our lives could have gone. I'll forever be thankful that my wife, even now can't hold her alcohol and that I happened to be working. Also that Dr Jones was whisked away to deal with another patient that meant that I could sit and be with Taylor. That time will always be special to me and I know it's special to Taylor as well. Thank god our paths crossed and we became one.

The End.

Hope you've all enjoyed this random mini series that I was inspired to write. No idea what made me write it but here you all go.
