I'm a Guardian?

"Mom I'm back from the interview. Where are you?" Taylor called into the house as she was shrugging off her winter coat in the foyer. Glancing around and seeing no one near her. 'Hmm that's a bit odd. Mom told me to come over and she's not even here. I'll check the kitchen.' Upon a closer inspection in the kitchen Taylor noticed a subtle difference in the kitchen compared to when she was last here over a week ago. It smelt different, the layout looked a little different and then she found the note.

Hey Tator Tot

If you're reading this note then I guess you have discovered that we are currently not home but we will be home soon. Had to go somewhere special and get something. You will understand when we get home. We should be back at 3.00pm but if not don't panic. I'll text you when we are on our way home.

Love Mom and Dad

Taylor's P.O.V

I stood there for the longest time reading the note trying to decipher any further clues in it. Upon failing I opened up the cupboard and reeled back. Baby food, lots of baby food and baby formula. I tensed up. Thinking back to when I last saw Austin, nope he didn't have a girlfriend and hadn't in almost a year so he couldn't be having a baby. I certainly wasn't pregnant. So whose baby food was it? "I guess I'll have to wait for mom and dad." I said slumping back against the granite counter tops.

Life wasn't always easy for me or my family. I was fourteen when we moved to Hendersonville in Tennessee so I could begin to write music, I had a publishing deal where I would write songs and people would record them. When I was sixteen I got my own record deal and began to record music. My family used to travel with me when I was younger especially my mom. When I was finished with my second tour mom told me she was going to stay home. Now after releasing the new album 1989 I was home for a few weeks before the tour preparation began again. I loved being home and even though I had my own condo above Nashville I still loved coming home. The twenty minute drive was totally worth it and it means that I get more privacy while I'm home.

Andrea's P.O.V

We had just arrived in Nashville, I swear we passed Taylor on her way out to our place on our way into the city but I doubt she even saw us. She tends to focus on the end point when she drives. We were going to Nashville to pick up our newest Swift. "Scott, do you think we are doing the right thing? I mean Taylor is almost twenty five and Austin is twenty one. Is this crazy?"
"No Andrea, we need something to focus on. Let's face it the kids don't need us anymore. This child does. We have been through this; she is a tiny baby I'm sure the kids will fight to be the first to bond with her. Don't worry about it." I sat back and thought about it. Taylor greeted hundreds of people daily and did her concerts, she loves children. It should be fine.

Half an hour later we were waiting for her to arrive, "Andrea and Scott Swift. Case 0359" Scott and I stood and walked to the door. The lady smiled at us and said "This way Mr and Mrs Swift your baby awaits you." We walked in and immediately saw her, being cradled by our lawyer. He walked towards us and placed our daughter in our arms. "Before you guys go, you need to fill in some emergency paperwork just to say who..."
"Mia Juliet Swift." Scott stated proudly while I smiled and cradled the small baby. "Sure Mia Juliet Swift will go to in the event of you both dying. You need to decide before you leave here. I'll give you a few minutes to decide."
"We don't need to decide, we have already decided...In the case of us both dying Mia will stay within the family and she will go to Taylor." The lawyers eyes opened in shock but he simply filled in the paperwork and within fifteen minutes we were back on the road home, I was sitting in the back with Mia who was contently asleep. "I think we made the right decision Scott, do you think they will like her?"
"Are you kidding Andrea, be prepared not to spend any time with her for at least three weeks. Taylor will hog her. She loves kids. It's only a matter of time and the right man and she will make us grandparents." I smiled at Scott and looked down at Mia, she would fit into our family with her blue eyes and blonde hair. She was an angel.

Taylor's P.O.V

I heard mom and dad's hummer pull into the garage but I stayed glued to my spot. Meredith Grey and Derrick Sheppard just kissed for the first time. The door opened and I heard mom call out. I responded with "Lounge, Grey's Anatomy." Mom came in and said to me, "How do you like kids? Plus do you want to stay here for a few weeks?" I stared at her and smirked,
"Sure I'll stay and of course I love kids. Why do you ask?" Then I saw dad come in with a pink capsule and a scream came out of my mouth and I was up and across the room to dad, who passed the capsule to me, looking inside I was met with blue eyes and a swish of blonde hair and I felt my heart melt. Meeting my mom and dad's eyes mom stated "Meet your new sister Mia Juliet Swift." I felt my heart stop beating as I looked into Mia's eyes. I smiled at my mom and dad then gently undid the ties that were holding Mia into the capsule. Lifting her out, holding her I just fell in love with her. Sitting down on the couch carefully I was in awe. "How did this happen?"
"Well we have been missing company in the house since you and Austin are both gone now. So we adopted." Mom said to me.
"Wow that's amazing, how old is she? Because she looks tiny," I was just awe struck and could hardly speak. My mom spoke up first, "Well Mia is almost one month old, born premature so very small anyway but we need to discuss something with you."

I sat up a little straighter and moved Mia onto my shoulder where she scrunched up her tiny fists. I motioned for mom to continue and she did, "Before we were allowed to adopt her we had to sign some paperwork and for the paperwork we had to put down a guardian in the event that both your dad and I die."
"Okay so which crazy Aunt did you pick, Debbie or Mary?" Mom and dad looked at each other then mom said slowly so I wouldn't miss anything, but the look on her face let me know this was serious. "You Taylor, you are Mia's guardian in the event that something happens to us, and we hope that Karlie will accept her if the worst does happen, like she would her own child, we realize you two may have to talk about this." I look at my mom and take the attention from Mia, "really, you want us to be the guardian for Mia, when does that change though. I mean when she's 18 what happens to her then?" I question as mom looks at me.
"Well that's something that we have to discuss but I think that you and Karlie need to discuss if you want to do this, if you don't maybe it will be crazy Aunt Debbie or Mary. I hope not, I'd really like this one to stay with the family and as the eldest child I thought that you'd want her." I smile. "Yes, I want her and I'm sure Karlie would love to. So don't even worry, draw up the papers and I'll sign them." I watch as mom disappears out of the room and by dinner time I have the contract from my parents lawyer, and so I sign it without hesitation.

An hour later with Mia tucked into her new room my parents talk to me about what happens from here onwards, they explain the background of Mia and how they came to adopt her. They also talk about how they realize that Karlie and I are getting closer and closer and that things are constantly changing with where we are living and then just as my parents are really starting to talk about thing I smile and say, "well I don't think that you have to worry about Karlie's commitment to me..."
"Why's that Taylor?" Dad questions looking at me. I smile and put my hand in my jeans pocket and as I drag my ring out of my pocket and put it on my finger. "Because Karlie and I are now engaged, she asked me and I said yes." I state as my parents grin and beam at me. "Taylor Alison Swift! You're kidding us, why didn't you tell us. Oh my god, well this calls for a celebration." I grin as we all toast to a new family member in baby form and a new family member in to form of my 6 foot giant from the Lou.
