Taylor's P.O.V

"Well when this first came up, it seemed like the right thing to do and well now I'm not so sure." Dad states looking at me through his massive glasses that Austin and I brought him when we were younger and he now claims to love them too much to ever get rid of them and we tease him relentlessly. "What are you talking about?" I question as dad continues to look more guilty.
"Adam." I feel my heart drop.
"What about him!" I snap, not really meaning to but I'm over it all and over my life completely at this point. "I guess you could say we pushed him on you...in a way. It depends on how you look at it." Dad says looking at the ground as I feel my head spin and my heart ache. "Dad," I whisper as he looks up and I feel tears well up in my eyes. "What have you done?" I question not wanting to believe that one of my key support people would ever betray me like I'm discovering." Dad looks at me and then hands me a tissue. "Your management approached us after 1989 came out and asked us if we would essentially agree to them more or less pushing a few dates onto you. Your mom and I talked about it and one day we happened to be arguing about it when Amelia walked in looking for Austin. She overheard everything and when we realized she had heard we immediately begged her not to tell you or Austin but she couldn't do it, she told Austin less than ten minutes later when he walked in. Ever since we have been begging them to both keep this from you but instead of seeing you happy like I did in 2015 when your relationship with Adam was so new. I've seen you slip, and now I'm over keeping this a secret from you and your mom agreed. Especially now that you two barely talk anymore and I know it's because we always change the topic when you want to talk about Karlie and to be honest we were told by management to stop talking about Karlie even though she was a massive part of your life..."
"Is!" I state as dad looks at me.
"Yes, is a big part of your life and now Adam is here asking if we will let him marry you and I know that I can't say yes unless it's what you want." My eyes nearly bulge out of my eyes and I stand up and walk around the garage/workshop and stare at my dad.

"So what you are telling me is that you and mom with management conspired against me to get me to date Adam to make me forget about Karlie?" I question not wanting to believe that this is all real. Dad nods and I feel the anger grow. "Now Adam want's permission to marry me?" I question and dad nods and then says, "but I wanted to ask you first before saying yes or no." I nod and briskly stroll to the garage door and open it as dad follows me questioning what I'm doing and before I can stop it I turn to him and say, "you don't have a right to say anything to me right now." Dad nods and moves backwards as mom comes out of the lounge where I guess she was entertaining Adam. "What's going on here?" she questions glancing at me and then at dad and as he shakes his head my mom's mouth drops open. "You told her, didn't you Scott. After you said you wanted to talk a walk to decide if you wanted to give away your little girl so you told her." I glance at dad who states straight at mom. "Yes I did. Want to know why Andrea? It's her life. She is almost twenty eight now and when will these games stop?" I glance at mom who looks shocked. "She's our baby Andrea, we have to protect her and we vowed to do that when you were pregnant with her, we sat and vowed that we would always do what was best for her but we haven't been." By this stage this argument between my parents had dragged Adam, Austin and Amelia out to see it and while Amelia and Austin stood back Adam looked worried and then he spoke. "What's happening here?" My parents froze and turned to face him as dad says, "you don't have my blessing." It's then that I see a new side to Adam a side that I've never seen. He points at my parents before saying, "You want to disobey the orders of management, fine! Go ahead, see where your pretty daughter ends up."

I watch Adam leave out the front door and then I turn to everyone in the room. "Who knew about this thing with management?" I question and to my amazement everyone raises their arm and that's when it hits me that they all knew about it and let me sit and feel terrible for nearly two years. "Wow." I state completely shocked as they all look at me. "Tay-Tay..." Austin states moving towards me, but I shake my head and move away from him and closer to the door Adam just left out of. "No..." I say with a shaky voice. "You all knew but you let me sit for two years believing that Adam was the best I could do because you all praised him. But this wasn't the case, this was staged from the beginning and I don't know if I can forget about that right now." I say turning to collect my handbag and walking towards the door. "Taylor where are you going, it's freezing out there!" My mom shrieks rushing over to her and grabbing my arm. I turn to face her and for the first time ever I yank myself free of my mom's grasp that was once so comforting to me. "Let me go. I love you all because you're my family but right now I can't be around you. Not while knowing that you all knew I wasn't happy. Especially you mom, the amount of times I rang and I just wanted to talk to you about something and that was Karlie, you all knew exactly how I felt about her and I lost her just like that. Although now it makes sense that she's gone. Someone got rid of her and I just don't think that I can forget that you all knew." I watch them all stare at the ground and I go to leave but before I leave I turn and leave them with one last message. "You know I'm glad I know about this now because I came here and I knew I wasn't leaving." My mom looks at me.
"Were you going to move back to Nashville?" she questions but I shake my head.
"No, I was going to kill myself because I've been so unhappy. I couldn't talk to you because you wouldn't talk to me about Karlie and management wouldn't let me go to therapy so I was coming home to kill myself." I watch my families faces all drop as realization hits them as to how close they came to not having me around anymore. I walk to the door and then I say, "don't worry. I'm not going to do it, I'm going to see Scott and retire then I'm going to the media." I say as I leave the threshold of the house I had grown up in, written my first and second album in and had my fair share of heartbreak in and for the first time in a while I feel free of all obligations and it makes me happy.

Karlie's P.O.V

I wake up to a cold grey morning and it hits me that today feels exactly like my mood. Opening up the curtains I smile as Joe rolls over in his dog bed in an attempt to stay asleep today. I see that the heavens above have brought us a new dumping of snow overnight which makes me smile as I see all the kids from the neighborhood are out creating snow angels and snowmen. I could laugh at their childish nature but in secret I hope that they never change and never let anyone push them away.

Walking downstairs of the two story, four bedroom house with the recently renovated kitchen and I smile thinking about how great this house will be when there are other voices in it. I had originally brought it in late 2014 when I thought that something was happening with Josh but that turned out terrible and so I kept it believing that when the time would come that I would know what I wanted to use it for. But the last two years it had been the perfect place to live and come back to when I have time off and at this time of the year everything is quiet in my life because I ask it to be. I glance at my IPhone and see that it's still turned off which is how I like it but I know that my parents plan to visit soon so I should turn it on in case they decide today is the day. They had moved back to St. Louis when the twins went to College and they loved being back. The twins are at Berkeley and I am now doing NYU long distance as I study towards getting my business degree and I'm nearly there only five more weeks and then I'm done which is awesome. Once my phone is on and warmed up I see a text from my mom:

Mom: Hi Karlie, we will be there on Friday. We have a house guest at the moment though so would it be okay if we bring her along with us, just so she isn't left alone. Let me know. Love Mom xx

I stare at the text all day before replying that it would be great to see them and the more the merrier, I know they are planning to stay the night so they don't have to drive home and so now I have to go and prepare another bed which doesn't please me that much, but I do it. I know that the person they are bringing must be important to them some way due to them bringing them to my house, they know how I feel about people I don't know but I don't question it at all. I busy myself for the rest of the day setting up mom and dad's guest room and setting up the room that Kristine uses when she comes to visit because it has a massive king-sized bed in it which is better than the two king-single beds in Kimby and Kariann's room. I set everything up and began to prepare something for dinner, my parents never expected grand food servings so I settled for a simple Moroccan Stir-Fry with exotic herbs and spices and then marinated some beef and chicken so they could add it to theirs should they want to. I also created more of the normal stir-fry than normal with their guest coming. It occurred to me a full five minutes before they were set to arrive that I had no idea who their guest would be. I only hoped that it would not be awkward for the guest being in someone else's home.

I didn't have to wait long as the doorbell rang as I was laughing at myself for being stupid about their guest arriving. I had long since locked Joe in the garage where he had his dog bed and a variety of toys at his disposal to play with. I opened the door as my mom greeted me with a massive hug and dad wasn't too far behind with another massive hug. The one thing I love about my family is that we are massive huggers and as my mom pulls out a bag of cookies I notice the other thing I love about our family is that we never arrive anywhere empty handed. I, myself had once started giving out cookies at every shoot I went to this then branched into my ever growing business of Karlie's Kookies which has a new pumpkin spice biscuit which was inspired by well, by Taylor when we used to hang out during winter and she would always order a pumpkin spice latte and I just developed the cookie without thinking about it one day and it's now a firm favourite. But I didn't have much time to spare as dad let me go and quickly moved back to bring in bags and show the guest to the house since they had been on a call. I led mom upstairs to her room before darting downstairs towards dad who instead shooed me to the boot to grab the guest's suitcase. I was about to grab it when a gloved hand reaches in and takes it. "That's mine. I'll take it." The voice almost makes my heart shatter and when I feel braver in less than three seconds I turn around and there, standing before me is the woman who has plagued my thoughts and then as I am about to say something I feel a hand connect with the side of my face. "Ouch! What the fuck was that?" I question as I bring my hand up to support my sore cheek. I look at the hitter who is one Taylor Alison Swift and say. "What did you do that for? I was trying to be nice but I should have known." I watch Taylor, my ex-best friend grab her case and wheel it towards the door before it actually hits me that Taylor is the guest my parents brought with them. 'Shit I'm screwed.' I decide as I walk inside and shut the front door.
