Karlie's P.O.V

"Come on Taylor, please...I mean at least think about it." I state looking at the phone in front of me. Seeing my best friend on the other side. "Karlie, I don't think it's a good idea to have a dog running around the apartment with two cats there. I mean Meredith is getting old..." I see her struggling to actually say no, but instead of backing off I try to chase her down. "But Tay, this could be good for Meredith, try to get some love back into those bones..." I state hopefully but this does nothing for Taylor who simply looks into the phone on her end that we are video chatting on and says a very firm. "No Karlie, we are not getting a dog for the apartment." I pout and look across the room past the phone but it doesn't work with Taylor, never has done really. "Karlie, don't even try that crap, not today. Now I've said no and since we both split everything 50/50 including the apartment, no means no. Okay." I nod and sigh.
"Okay, geez it was only an idea. I just wanted to have a little fun with it." I can see Taylor soften a bit but not thaw out enough to warm up to the idea. "I know, but think about how much travel you do for your job, it's not fair to make me then take care of a damn dog that I don't even want." I nod but know deep down that I'm not going to give up.

Over the next few weeks I set about doing research and even after talking to my parents who have a dog currently they've all said that I'm not ready for a dog and that I don't have time for a dog and sometimes I think that they are right. I've always wanted a dog but I've never been home long enough to go through the trouble of training one, walking it daily and then taking care of it. On a particularly cold winter day in New York I happen to choose to walk home from the gym rather than take the SUV that Taylor insisted that I use when I need to get around the city but I decide to give the guards the day off. I'm less than 500 metres from the apartment entrance, close enough that I can see that Paul is on guard for this block during the day but before I can go even a metre further I hear a feint bark from the alleyway and instead of walking on my curious nature gets the best of me and I move towards the entrance to the alleyway. Walking in and feeling the snowy slush move under my shoes I instantly feel gross, the feeling of it has always made me feel gross but I persevere. Reaching a clump of rubbish bins I pause and listen again, hearing the feint bark I crouch down and move some cardboard boxes and a tiny puppy leans up against the side of its cardboard box, wagging its tail and its tongue hanging out. "Oh aren't you just the cutest...." I state sweeping down and scooping it up. I let it lick me and then I start to move back towards the street and towards the busy street once more. It takes me less than five minutes to meet Paul at the door. He looks at me but shakes his head at me. "When Taylor finds out, she's gonna kill you Karlie." Paul states as he lets me into the apartment, for once the area outside is quiet with no paparazzi, I think they are following Taylor around Los Angeles while she's out there meeting with Max Martin and Shellback for that magic album number six.

As I walk into the apartment the puppy starts to jump around and as I enter with the puppy yelping Meredith hisses from the couch and rushes off with Olivia on her tail. I look at the puppy and then shrug, dropping my gym bag on the couch I head to the downstairs bathroom and shut the door. Putting the puppy down I start to run the bath and reach for a facecloth so that I can clean the puppy off better than just washing it. Getting the water warm enough so it won't burn the dog and then so it's not too deep I quickly wash the dog off and find myself looking at a chocolate brown coloured dog, I have no idea what type it is considering it's a puppy so I decide that a trip to the vets is in order. I dry the dog using the cat hair dryer that Taylor has for times when Olivia falls into the bathtub. A quick call to Paul has the SUV waiting downstairs within half an hour and the moment that it arrives I'm off to the nearest vet place. A nurse greets me and takes the puppy from me, I choose to follow and see what's wrong with the puppy before I can make a decision, once I know the puppy is in good health then I can set about getting Taylor to let me keep it, fingers crossed.
