Taylor's P.O.V
Rushing towards the hospital for a boy that Karlie and I hardly know isn't how I imagined Karlie and I beginning our adoption process but Karlie seems to have really connected with him so it only seems fair that I attempt to get to know him too. I don't say much to Karlie as we drive towards the hospital but I do look at my phone and text my mom so that she knows why Karlie and I aren't at the house when they get to L.A also that way they do not worry about where we are.
"Are you okay Kar?" I question as Karlie swings the SUV into the first available park. She turns off the car and looks at me before saying, "yeah no I'm fine Tay. Just a bit concerned about what we could possibly be walking into right now." I don't say anything, only nod at her as she takes the keys out of the ignition and then she pauses. "Are you sure that you want to consider this Taylor? Because you know as well as I do that the moment we step foot into that hospital we are guaranteeing ourselves to being dropped in it for the next few years, but are you sure that's what you want?" I find my head snapping towards Karlie as she speaks to me and then I find myself saying. "Of course I'm okay with this Karlie. You and Jonte joined that day, met in the middle. That's what all of the agencies said to look for when we were selecting a child to adopt or foster." Karlie nods,
"Okay, well as long as you're sure then we should probably go and see what's going on with Jonte. Catch up with someone who can tell us what's happening." I find myself nodding and then we step out of the SUV and Karlie takes my hand as we step towards the hospital entrance.
The hospital staff isn't very accommodating despite our 'celebrity' status which is annoying as it means that we are sitting with people armed with cellphones and cameras who are sitting near us. Although they are nice to us and respect having distance they also try to talk to us, but most of them give up as they realise that we are waiting for someone. It takes a little over two hours for the waiting room to grow quiet and for someone to come to us and take us to a small room to talk to a doctor. But we're told we have to wait more, which annoys Karlie who isn't very good at sitting still. She's never had to wait around in a hospital and neither have I but I've grown used to waiting around before my own shows and so for Karlie to have to wait it's much more difficult.
It takes an extra hour for the doctor to arrive and when she does, Karlie is shocked at how young she looks. She mentions it in passing as quietly as she can but I feel like the doctor, Dr. Michelle Richards still hears her which makes me laugh a little. But that laughing mood soon stops as soon as I see the look on the doctors face.
Dr. Richards P.O.V
Walking into Jonte Wilson's room I'm always a little startled to see victims of crashes, this one in particular is a fifteen year old boy, several lacerations spread across his back and a torn ACL ligament in his knee. It's no shock that he's also in a medically induced coma to assist in his healing as he currently has swelling on the brain. All in all, he will recover but there is a large chance that even if his ACL heals as it's supposed to then there could be damage to his walk and it will affect his running despite the physiotherapy that he will have to undergo in roughly eight to twelve weeks.
As I check in with the nurse's station and hand in Jonte's chart making sure that he is registered to be under me and my department of orthopaedics so that we can carry out the physiotherapy for him. I've heard rumours that he is going to be getting adopted and that his new foster parents who are trying to adopt him are waiting in the waiting room. "We're heading out after shift Michelle, want to join?" a nurse from the station mentions as I hand over the file.
"Sure I get out of here in a few hours, just got another set of rounds to do. Text me the details I'll have my phone on me." I state before grabbing my pen and signing off on his medicines chart so the nurses can administer pain relief through his IV. As soon as the papers are done I'm off out to the waiting room to address the 'parents'.
Stepping into the reception/waiting area brings no parents, but as I enquire at the front desk the couple are already in my office waiting for me. I nod and retrace my steps back towards the carpeted area which is where the doctors' offices are. Moving down to my own door I take a deep breath and remember everything that I've ever been told about addressing parents, no matter what when dealing with patients who are in comas make sure to assure the parents that their child will be okay. In this situation it's a little bit different as the moment that I step forward into my office and two blonde haired women turn around it takes me a little less than ten seconds to realise that I'm about to talk to Taylor and Karlie Swift-Kloss about a potential child they are looking at adopting and that's when it feels like a tonne of bricks have come down on me. I can feel the weight pressing me down but that quickly changes when Karlie and Taylor smile and I feel myself relaxing.
"So Jonte has significant swelling on his brain and because we've already done surgery on his knee to fix the ACL ligament we believe that it's in his best interest to place him in the medically induced coma to try and give his body the change to relax and rest. We've stitched up several large lacerations on his back which will cause some distress and discomfort when he does wake but for now we will have to wait and see." I watch as the pair of them nod in confirmation that what we are doing is the right thing which makes me feel better as it seems that they are not about to argue with us at the hospital. "Is there a time frame that we can expect with a medically induced coma?" Taylor questions as she looks at me and I shake my head. "No unfortunately there is no limit and we can't put an exact timeline on him. So for now it's a waiting game for us and a waiting game for you too." She only nods and I just smile weakly at them. "So I guess that's it then?" Karlie questions which makes me smile and nod. "Yes, there's nothing more to say but you're both more than welcome to visit him whenever you want. The nurses that float in and out will be more than happy to answer any of your questions if you need." Both women nod as we all stand up and say goodbye with me promising to catch up with them if anything changes to which they both state they appreciate.
