Archie's P.O.V

"You've just got to give it time. How long have you known Becca for?" Mama questions as we take our bats out of the car and I grab the gear bag with balls in it. "Okay, it's been what four years. I guess it's just getting to me now." I state as I sit down to change out my grip on my favourite bat. "What about it gets to you?" Mama questions as she stretches out her long arms. I heave out a sigh and then I think about it and I quickly say, "paps, that what makes things so difficult. It's the paps. I swear that's why Becca dumped me. She decided that it wasn't worth it. That I wasn't worth it, I don't know mama. I just need to get out of my own head." I state as I grab my bat and bag and head towards the batting cages. With a simple wave to Brad who works here at the batting cages, he's a regular worker and I come here all the time so he buzzes me in.

I select cage five and load the balls that are already there, I ensure that they're the correct size for baseballs and not softballs. Once I've done it I turn to mama, "what level do you want it on?" She smirks at me, "I've been working on hitting, so put it on whatever you want Arch," she states and so I select level 7 which is a few higher than I usually put but I really want to blow off some steam. "Do you want first round?" I question but she sits back,
"No, you have it. Go get em," I nod and head out, grabbing my bat and putting on a helmet too.

The first few pitches that the machine tosses at me, all I can think about is the words that Becca has used over the past few years that we've been dating and how she can't handle the life that I lead. It's not my fault that I have the life that I have. I didn't ask to have Karlie and Taylor as my parents but I also didn't ask to have people constantly judge my life and I thought that Becca understood. We live in one of the busiest cities in America. New York is constantly popping off and paparazzi seem to camp out outside our apartment in the city. No one in my family has ever asked to be constantly followed, all mom ever wanted to achieve with music was to change someone's life and hope that someone even if it was one person would be able to relate to her and things that happened in her life. For the longest time Blank Space was a popular song which played on the life that the paparazzi had made up about mom's life. No one ever knew that she was secretly dating mama and that they had been together since early 2014 and not just from the end after the album came out.

As the fourth and fifth pitches come my way and my bat begins to connect with the balls coming my way mama begins to cheer me on and I start to smile. My head starts to spin and with every hit positive words come at me. 'Smart, courageous, brilliant, unique, reliable...' the words all make my mouth split into a wide grin. "What are you thinking about Arch?" mama questions from near me, she's leaning against the wire fence and watching with interest but by the way she's holding her phone I know she was recording something too. "Nothing," I state realising that for the first time in forever, that's the truth. I'm not thinking about anything and it feels great. "How do you feel?" she questions again. "Free..." I state as the machine runs out of balls and I step away from the home plate that is etched into the ground. She smiles at me and opens the gate allowing me to exit the cage. "Do you want to go?" I question but mama shakes her head to indicate no, I look at her and she says, "this was about you. This was what you needed Archie. Not me, you needed something and this was it." I nod and smile at her, despite the fact of me being seventeen I still hug my mama and as I hug her close I say, "I love you mama. Thank-you..."
"I love you too Archie. You're the best thing that ever happened to your mom and I and we couldn't be more proud of you. We know it's not easy but we're glad you love us regardless of how the world portrays you." I smile at her and together we pick up our bats and balls and return to the car after having the best time together.

Karlie's P.O.V

The afternoon that I spent with Archie allowed me to look into his life, to see things from his perspective. I know that at times things can seem out of place with the paparazzi always being in our faces, he's never been allowed to live the life of a true New York kid but at the same time he's experienced travel and places that other kids can only dream of. I know that it's his dream to play baseball, it's his way of expressing his stress and tonight was a golden opportunity for me to see first-hand how much he loves it. I know that in a year Taylor and I will be sitting at a college of his choice watching him play his heart out on the field. He works hard to bat his best and field his best at 2nd base. There's nothing better than watching your child succeed and I can't wait to see what happens next.
