Taylor's P.O.V
"Karlie! Come help..." Karlie comes sprinting upstairs yelling out my name trying to find me in a busy household of all girls. "Taryn's room..." I squeal and she comes in, stopping when she sees me. "Oh babe..." I look at her with a sad face as she fights not to laugh. "Can you just not..." I cry out. "Please babe." I say looking at her while holding up Taryn who is looking down. "Okay," she squeals stepping forward. Out of our children I always thought that having a fourth child wouldn't be much worse than having three running around. Unfortunately we couldn't have been more wrong. Between juggling twins, having a child with a disability and now a newborn who kept us up all hours and almost never sleeps. "Karlie just take her and bath her, I need to shower." I state pulling my t-shirt away from my body.
"Babe, we're supposed to be leaving in an hour. I don't think we have time for you to be showering. Just change or something." I look at her in shock and say,
"Karlie I am not travelling to Big Sur with four kids while I smell like baby vomit. I'm sorry but I'm not that desperate to go." I watch as Karlie rolls her eyes at me and I groan. "No, I'm showering." She nods and takes Taryn off to the bathroom to give her a bath as I walk to our room, thankful I was still in pyjamas. "I'll make it quick." I yell at her and continue getting ready.
I emerge from my room less than twenty minutes later and I find both Susan and Amelia sitting quietly on the couch watching TV and Kelsey nearby playing with her interactive iPad game that we downloaded her. I catch her fiddling with her ears and I walk over to her and start signing to her. It doesn't take her long to understand that I'm trying to tell her it's time to go. But just as I get all the elder three girls together Karlie comes downstairs with Taryn. "What is it?" I question looking at her flushed face. She takes a deep breath then looks at me and says, "It's Taryn, she's got a high fever. I don't think we should be going to Big Sur." I look at her and say,
"Really? Should we take her to the doctor?" I question I always hated it when all of my children are sick and they always seem to manage to get sick at the same time. "I think we should wait it out and see how she is in the morning." I nod and turn to the other three, but only Kelsey was still standing in one place. The twins are always watching TV again and as I bend down and open my arms and she walks straight into them and as I hug her tight I feel her getting heavier and as I pull her away from me I notice she has fallen asleep. Smiling at Karlie I hand her off and say I'll get the baby Tylenol for Taryn and as I follow Karlie upstairs. I see that she's already tucked Kelsey in for her nap and she has Taryn in her arms and is rocking her as Taryn is getting more and more upset. "Here babe, give her this." I say holding out the Tylenol for Taryn. Karlie accepts it as I head downstairs to get the bags to unpack them. I know that we won't be going to Big Sur for at least another month or two as we're both busy with meetings.
Karlie's P.O.V
"By babe..." I hear being whispered in my ear as Taylor presses a kiss to my jaw. I groan and roll over and grab her hand before it disappears. With one yank she's back in my arms and struggling to get out. "Karlie, please I have to leave." I hear her protest as I giggle.
"Oh but I need you here..." I groan. "Don't leave me alone with the four monsters, not when Taryn is teething so badly. Please baby..." I beg as she stands and readjusts her clothing as she moves towards the bedroom door. "Karlie, please it's only two hours. All you have to do is get Taryn and Kelsey dressed and organized, the twins already know what they're wearing just make sure that they're all packed and stuff and I'll be home before you know it and we'll be leaving for Big Sur." I look over at her and pout in the dim light of the bedroom that's only lit from the bedside lamp. "Okay...I guess I can manage that." I state in a huff as Taylor scoops in and kisses my forehead. "Great, I love you." I smile at her and watch her leave. But as the front door silently closes and I hear the garage door open the first cry starts. I sigh but heave myself up and rub my eyes tiredly. Glancing at the clock I see it's only 6.58am but I know Taylor has a 7.30am breakfast meeting and we are supposed to leave at 10.00am but I know we will leave late, we always do.
As soon as Taryn is settled with a bottle in her mouth and me walking her around the kitchen humming and although I know I'm no consolation for Taylor and her humming or singing I know that Taryn isn't exactly happy with having me and not mommy. A few minutes after Taryn gets comfortable Kelsey comes in and sits at the island and as I hand her some washed grapes out of the fridge she starts to cry, I look at her and see the skin is still on the grapes. "Oh baby I'm sorry," I say but then I mentally slap myself as I remember that Kelsey can't actually hear me. I quickly put Taryn down as her eyes fall shut and I put her into the crib we have in the kitchen for moments like this. Quickly moving back to Kelsey I quickly skin some grapes and she eats them happily and just as she gets comfortable the twins come downstairs arguing like every morning. "Girls..." I state making them look like me and Amelia quickly says sorry but Susan sticker her chin up and point blank looks at me and this continues all morning, when I serve her breakfast of lucky charms that she eats every morning but suddenly today she wanted fruit loops and then when we put her Barbie mint toothpaste on her toothbrush like every morning she wanted the bubble-gum flavour and it ended when suddenly Susan stubbed her toe and suddenly world war three erupted. Amelia was more laid back but when Susan cries Amelia cries, it's a twin thing my mom told me. I sighed and couldn't help but think about when they were babies and they were so different but now that they're getting older they can't do things without each other. As it approaches 10.00am I'm nowhere near ready to leave and so begins my mad dash around the house. I check on Taryn who is still sleeping and the twins cuddled on the couch and Kelsey on the iPad I tap her shoulder making her turn and face me and I start to sign to her to go and get her jacket she nods and rushes off. I move to the twins who get distracted by the front door and I sigh in relief. "Taylor..." I groan out as she comes through the doorway. I turn and look at her and she smiles at me despite having two kids in her arms. "Busy morning?" she questions and I manage to nod at her which makes her laugh. "Okay, so you were right when you said once that it was hard to have all four at once so I admit that you're the good juggler." She laughs as she puts the girls down and comes towards me, I spread my arms and she wraps herself into my hug. "Well how about I help out and we get out of here?" She suggests making me smile as I nod and she smiles at me as she chases the twins out.
Less than two hours later I'm almost at my wits end. Taryn is overtired and refusing to fall asleep of the one time she did just outside L.A the twins arguing woke her up which didn't impress me very much either. Kelsey is the good traveller and as we reach the outskirts of where we are stopping for lunch everyone is getting restless and when I pull into the car park and everyone piles out we eat the lunch that Taylor managed to pack before we left, full of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Taylor breastfeeds Taryn and rocks her to sleep before putting her in the baby carrier latched to her chest. It doesn't take long for the twins to convince us to go for a small walk and we do, I scoop up Kelsey and the twins walk ahead of us. We stop in the same clearing Taylor and I did once and we hang out on a fallen log, Taylor sits and the kids surround her and then Taylor and I switch places and I sit with the kids. The rest of the trip to Big Sur doesn't take much longer and as the kids all fall asleep I smile at Taylor. "Much quieter now babe," Taylor grins and turns around to look at the twins in the back and Taryn and Kelsey sitting in the middle next to each other in their car seats. "So then this road trip was a good thing?" Taylor questions as I grin at her,
"Yeah this was so much fun, despite all the arguing and stuff..." She nods at me and we settle back for the ride to the hotel that we are going to stay at and it's when I glance in the rear view mirror that I know that she's right and this was a great idea. We've done tons of road trips over the years but never one with the kids and now with all of us although hectic it's been amazing to experience this and I know that all the pictures will be amazing.
Sorry this one is earlier than the others but i wanted to group all the ones with Susan, Amelia, Kelsey and Taryn together.
