Karlie had received a call just before 6am on a Tuesday morning and on the other end was a hysterical Taylor Swift. From the way that she sounded it made Karlie take notice but that quickly diminished when she discovered Taylor was just simply being a total spaz about a potential new neighbor downstairs. Karlie couldn't help but point out the obvious that anyone who knew the name Taylor Swift would know that she lived in New York and in Tribeca in particular. But still Karlie finds herself being asked by Taylor to come over ASAP. Being the dutiful friend she does just that and that's how she finds herself in Taylor's apartment at 8.35am on a Tuesday.
Karlie had been lounging on one of Taylor's fancy armchairs with her legs dangling over the edge, bemusedly watching Taylor pace back and forth for the better part of the last two hours. If she continued, she would probably wear holes into her floor, and maybe fall through to the floor below. Taylor was rambling on about the same thing that she had been for the past thirty minutes and Karlie found herself able to zone in and out without missing much. "I didn't think anyone would buy it! I mean, it's under me, and that's a lot to deal with," Taylor says with strain, dragging her fingers through her hair rather harshly. "It's not much to deal with, Taylor. Don't act like you're a burden," Karlie states softly, knowing how easily Taylor slipped into a self-deprecating state. She always had notions that the people around her hated her, or found her tiresome to hang out with, and this corrupted her thoughts for nearly everything else, leading her to the belief that no one could ever want to move in next to her simply because she's Taylor Swift. "Either way! This is so stressful. I'm going to have to get to know them, and have to apologize, like, every five minutes about the paparazzi that are outside, and god forbid I have a party. What if they're not a party person? Would I invite them in or make sure we stay quiet? Who even likes a quiet party?" Her fears tumble from her lips and Karlie frowns. It hadn't been a discussed topic between them, the new vacancy in Taylor's building, and Karlie had no idea that so many things were bearing down on Taylor. "I like quiet parties," Karlie whispers, and Taylor pauses in her movements and smirks at Karlie. "Thank you, but I'm sure you're the only one. Two people isn't a party."
"It is if you try hard enough!" Karlie defends, happy to have gotten a laugh out of Taylor."Well, they move in this Friday. Should I bake cookies for them? What if they're allergic to cookies? Oh, no. Maybe rice-krispie treats?" Taylor looks at Karlie as if she's expecting an answer and the girl shrugs. "Oh, you're no help. I'll just make a bunch of stuff then."
Friday morning sneaks up on her like nothing ever has before. She had been so busy with her life that she forgot that she was going to have an entirely new person living next to her within a few more hours and she was not prepared. Taylor had launched into a flurry and, as she had coined it in her head, began to aggressively bake. It calmed her nerves and soon she had a few trays of various treats to offer whoever was moving in. Twitter absorbs her attention for a while, but soon she hears a commotion outside and people shouting. A look of puzzlement comes across her face and she goes to her door to sneak a peek at her new neighbor. Her jaw drops when she opens the door, finding herself staring at a familiar blonde with a box in her hand with the word kitchen marked in sharpie crudely on the side. "Hey, neighbor!" Karlie exclaims, lifting her box as a form of greeting. Taylor's hand grips the door harder, finding herself a little dizzy. "Am I on Punk'd?" Taylor breathes, her eyes darting between Karlie and the people bringing boxes into the adjacent apartment. "Nope. No joke to be had here," Karlie grins, walking over with her box, directing the guys behind her to just put the boxes down in the living room. "When did you... how did you..." Taylor begins, baffled at this whole thing. "Well, my building owner is selling the whole thing and I'm basically getting kicked out, so I needed to find a new place, and a little birdy told me that her apartment next door was up for sale. I hope she's alright with me moving in, I heard she's nervous she's going to have to explain paparazzi to me." Karlie's eyebrows raise and lower, and Taylor's mouth opens even further. "You - We - I ranted to you for an hour about how this was stressing me out! And you just let me go on and on!" accuses Taylor.
"And it was hilarious! You had no idea, that's what makes it so funny."
"I hate you," Taylor says stubbornly, pouting out her lips.
"No you don't, you love me. Now come help me put away stuff in my new apartment," Karlie nods her head back towards her door and turns away from Taylor. With that Karlie walks away from Taylor and into her new apartment. It's not like Taylor is worried about her new neighbor now that she knows it's Karlie. It's just ridiculous in the notion that she was concerned to begin with. Nothing is worth that much drama.
