After Taylor performs Wildest Dreams on tour and walks off stage on the final night she walks directly to the only arms she needs for comfort. Karlie's arms, Karlie quickly takes her overemotional wife into her arms and comforts her through hands rubbing up and down her back. "Shush, you're okay baby..." Karlie coos as Taylor cries into her shoulder and takes a deep breath. There is just one song left for her to sing before this night is over and this tour is over. Taylor pulls back and shakily looks at Karlie who wastes no time in brushing the tears out of her wife's eyes. "I'm good." Taylor states pulling back and smiling as Karlie continues to rub her back. "I know you are, are you ready for this though?" Taylor nods, "Yes, this is important." Taylor states as Karlie nods and turns to talk to Tree, Taylor takes the opportunity to rush and fix her make-up but as she looks at the TV that is showing the significance of the crowd tonight and all of a sudden Taylor crumbles. She just can't handle it, this tour has been hard enough but tonight of all nights she should be able to have it off, to have the opportunity but her eagerness to come and play in Kansas and only having tonight free Taylor was forced to play this concert on this night.
As Taylor falls to the ground and begins to sob but quickly her nostrils are encased in the smell of her wife's perfume. Taylor can't help but collapse into Karlie's arms as the tears come in hot and heavy really quickly. Karlie runs her hands through Taylor's hair as gently as she can and brushes a strand behind her head. "Breathe baby, you're far too pretty to cry like this..." Taylor looks up and nods but buries her head in Karlie's shoulder. "I know but this is harder than I thought it would be." Karlie nods like she understands and then Taylor looks up again. "I guess I thought after two years it wouldn't hurt as much as it does but the hurt doesn't stop. It's constantly there." Taylor states lowering her head back down as the music onstage begins to play slow and sensually signalling that Taylor needs to get back onstage and do one last song. "Your mom would want you to do it." Karlie insists as she wraps her hands around Taylor in support. "I don't know if I can," Taylor states turning into the comfort of Karlie's arms. "I know you can..." Karlie whispers kissing Taylor's forehead and helping her back to the side of the stage and fixing her make-up. With one last kiss Taylor heads back onstage and the noise of the support of the crowd makes Karlie smile.
"Hi guys," Taylor shouts making the crowd scream louder. "This is the last song of the night and I'd just like to say that I haven't performed this song in forever. But tonight it seemed like the right thing to do so this is 'The Best Day' I hope you like it." The crowd screams as the guitar picks and on point Taylor starts to sing.
"I'm five years old
It's getting cold
I've got my big coat on
I hear your laugh
And look up smiling at you
I run and run
Past the pumpkin patch
And the tractor rides
Look now, the sky is gold
I hug your legs
And fall asleep on the way home
I don't know why all the trees change in the fall
But I know you're not scared of anything at all
Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day with you today
I'm thirteen now
And don't know how
My friends could be so mean
I come home crying
And you hold me tight
And grab the keys
And we drive and drive
Until we found a town far enough away
And we talk and window shop
'Till I forgotten all their names'
I don't know who I'm gonna talk to now at school
But I know I'm laughing
On the car ride home with you
Don't know how long it's gonna take to feel okay
But I know I had the best day with you today
I have an excellent father
His strength is making me stronger
God smiles on my little brother
Inside and out he's better than I am
I grew up in a pretty house
And I had space to run and
I had the best days with you
There is a video I found
From back when I was three
You set up a paint set in the kitchen
And you're talking to me
It's the age of princesses and pirate ships
And the seven dwarfs
And Daddy's smart
And you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world
And now I know why the all the trees change in the fall
I know you were on my side
Even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
Staying back and watching me shine and
I didn't know if you knew
So I'm taking this chance to say
That I had the best day with you today."
Taylor's voice quivers as the song comes to the end of the song and the crowd breaks out loud screams in support. Taylor's hand comes up to her mouth as the tears glisten at the corner of her eyes, Karlie can see on the TV next to her how her wife tears up. She knew how hard this night would be. Tonight marks two years since Andrea passed away, it was sudden in fact only three days into Karlie and Taylor's honeymoon. Andrea had gone to bed complaining of a headache but then a few hours later when Scott went to bed he was greeted with a quiet Andrea, usually she is a heavy breather but after his shower and climbing into bed he was about to kiss Andrea goodnight but he found she wasn't breathing, quickly checking for a pulse and reaching for the house phone to call 911. The moment Andrea arrived at the hospital it was too late and she was declared dead on arrival. Taylor and Karlie were called an hour after it happened but with them rushing home from Paris, Taylor found it hard to come to terms with the fact that she wasn't with her mom in the days prior to her death and she felt even worse that she wasn't home when she needed to. It took months of counselling for Taylor to feel ready enough to return to the stage for her latest tour and upon realising that she would have to perform on the night of Andrea's anniversary she immediately chose to put 'The Best Day' on the list. Karlie remembered the moment she decided. "It's what she would want Karlie. Please don't let me back down." Karlie remembers making that promise and not wanting to take it back, Taylor not letting her take it back and tonight when it seemed like the world was about to cave in, it didn't and Taylor was able to feel free. Free of the guilt she's been carrying around and as Karlie watches Taylor look to the sky in the arena an move her lips and Karlie knows she is thanking her mom, and for the first time in two years Karlie feels the sense of peace surrounding her wife and knows that Taylor also had 'The Best Day'.
