Karlie's P.O.V
Walking back inside for me feels more forced than it should. I know that this is fully because the woman who used to be my best-friend and who I had feelings for is standing in my house right now. Breathing deeply I walk inside and shut the door behind me and then I turn and see what I always wanted to see, and that was Taylor Swift in my house. Sure I always planned that she would be there because we were together and that it would be our house, with our cats, dog and kids running around but life had different plans for us well not life but definitely her management.
The night progressed slowly as we all ate the stir-fry that I made but the whole time I felt on edge. Not because my ex-best friend was there but because of the way my parents were looking at me, as if they knew something. I hoped they didn't and I was proved right when they began to question Taylor about her love life, this didn't really please me but I knew I had to be a good host about the situation so I sat and listened to her talking about Calvin Harris but I knew I wasn't comfortable so as soon as I could I disappeared into the kitchen under the disguise of getting desert. I didn't realise I had been away for so long until my dad walked in. "Karlie, are you okay in here?" He questioned the minute he laid down some dirty dishes. I looked at him and shrugged a little, as if to say "I'll be fine" but I don't think he really believed me because he looked hard at me. Thankfully the rest of the meal passed with me filling in my parents about my current projects including the latest Karlie's Kookie that was a major seller and that is the Pumpkin Spice Kookie so then mom being mom said, "that sounds gross. Where did you get that one from?" I feel myself blush a little as I turn towards Taylor unconsciously and say, "well Taylor here, loved Pumpkin Spice lattes that winter she spent in New York and so I got so used to smelling the spices and such that I decided why not try and it's been great so far." I can feel Taylor looking at me but I know that I can't lie to my mom about where the idea came from because she will just see straight through it so I tell the truth and instead I feel like my ex-best friend is majorly judging me. It's not long after my parents bid goodnight and retire to the guest bedroom. I busy myself in the kitchen and tell Taylor to make herself at home, trying not to physically wince at that thought due to me believing that once we had a chance to make that possible.
I busy myself loading the dishes into the dishwasher and turning it on before turning back and running a sink of soapy water to wash the left over ones. The whole time I can't help but wonder why she is here, why now? Why not two years ago when we stopped talking, well when I was forced to stop talking to her. Why wait until now when the scars are beginning to fade to now open them up again? It makes no sense but at the same time total sense, as my mom had once told me "love has no timeline" but I seriously doubt that this is love. More like a 'here let me shove my awesome life that you're not a part of in your face and make you feel bad.' I heave out a sigh not really believing that's how I feel but somehow that's how I do feel. Thrusting my hands into the water I feel the familiar scalding hot water and it allows me to bring tears to my eyes and before I know it, the tears are pouring down my face and that's when I begin to remember the last two years.
Standing in the kitchen in my New York apartment I look around and all I see are photos. Photos of amazing holidays I've been on, photos of my family, photos of my friends and looking at my photos on my fridge I smile at the latest one there. The one of Taylor and I at Big Sur National Park, hanging off the sign like a couple of goofs. This is my favourite one that was taken on that road trip because of what Taylor said afterwards when we were eating lunch and talking about love. We had already declared that we were best friends when Taylor said this and it made me get goose bumps and makes me think every day about her as a person and the person that I can imagine falling for. Especially when her words are "It's fearless to fall in love with your best friend." That was the first time I've ever thought of Taylor as more than a friend and to be honest it still freaks me out nearly four months after the trip, we had been planning to hang out since but it didn't feel right to be so public, especially not now when 'Kaylor' fandom is at an all-time high. It didn't take long for her management to actively start changing the way that we would interact, first it was stopping hugging in public, which I understood considering the fans who had been going mad with Kaylor hype. Then it was nightly activities after the 1975 concert where we allegedly kissed, which was false. Taylor had been whispering in my ear about a new song idea she had that morning and had made into a song but it had no name yet. After that Tree tried to get us more time but Taylor's management forced us to stay indoors only but this soon faded as they realised that this could be seen as us having sex all the time, being locked indoors. It wasn't long after this that I got a call from Tree. She had sounded upset at the time but this was normal for Tree to always be concerned but I should have fought harder not letting Tree push me around but I didn't think about that I just thought that it would be short term but man had I been wrong. It took me around two months to figure out that my texts were going to keep going un-noticed and calls to Taylor's management were never returned so I did the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. I moved on and broke down at the same time.
