Karlie's P.O.V
"So they want us to go on Ellen, when we've got time while we're in L.A." I tell Taylor as we walk through the foyer and into the house. "Oh, what are we supposed to do with the kids?" She questions as we keep walking. "Yeah, that's kind of the thing...Ellen wants us to bring the kids with us, she didn't say why but she wants us to bring them to the show and everything." Taylor stops walking next to me and then looks at me with wide eyes, "let me get this right, Ellen wants us to bring our five monsters to her show but she won't tell us why," I nod thinking about how stupid it sounds. "I guess, I mean our kids aren't that bad are they?" Taylor looks at me and laughs, "have you met our kids?" she questions making me laugh as I nod and lean in to kiss her,
Yes babe I've met our kids, you know I've wiped their bums too and what's more I've cleaned up their vomit too. But I think that I may know why she wants us to bring the kids to the show." Taylor looks at me expectantly but I only shrug and say over my shoulder that I'll tell her later. She nods and I will explain it when we're in bed.
I look around at the chaos happening in our dining room right now but instead of saying anything to the kids to settle them down I let them keep on chatting and thinking about how special each and every one of our kids are. When we first got married ten years ago we put a special order on a batch of sperm that we liked the way the bio of the man who donated it sounded. He claimed to have green eyes and a high IQ, the IQ allured me to him but Taylor liked the idea of green eyes considering that she carried them all which was what she wanted to do, I allowed her the joy of experiencing childbirth like she always dreamed of. Our son Liam James is now eight, with our next two sons following quickly, Mason Alexander and then Elijah William. At that stage I would constantly joke about how she was only producing boys made her laugh but one night when I found her crying and I discovered that she really wanted a daughter we started to try again. After a miscarriage and nine anxious months considering we didn't want to know our daughter Ava Sophia arrived, she's now four and a complete mirror image of Taylor and I thought that would be enough until Taylor claimed she wanted one last child, so we went again and now we have our little baby Arabella Madison who at three is simply adorable. Both of our daughters have Taylor's hair but Arabella has my eyes, which is why I think that Arabella is Taylor's favourite in terms of eyes because of how similar they are to mine.
"Liam, bath's ready." Taylor calls as she walks into the kitchen and presses her lips to mine, I hear tiny footsteps coming towards the kitchen and as Taylor moves on to round up Mason and Elijah I lean down expecting one of the girls to come in and I'm rewarded when Arabella comes rushing up to me with a piece of paper. "Is that for me?" I question as she nods.
"Mama..." I smile at her and then I hear Ava also calling out to me and she brings me a picture of what I assume is our family, the images are stick figures and there are clearly five little figures and two big ones. I smile and take them both in my hands and a few hours later when Taylor and I are in bed I grab the laptop next to me. "Hey here's what I wanted to show you?" I state clicking onto Jimmy Kimmel and showing her a video of Modern Family actress Julie Bowen does with her kids. "Wait so you think that Ellen wants to line up our kids among different kids and have me pick them out of a line up? Really?" Taylor questions looking nervous.
"I wouldn't worry at all babe, the worst thing that can happen is that you don't even recognize our kids and that's just something that you're going to have to practice." I state making Taylor wince. Which only makes me laugh more at how ridiculously insane this trip is going to be.
Taylor's P.O.V
The day of the show dawns bright and sunny in L.A. and for once the weather is so damn hot that I wake up without the kids nagging at me, and I realise when I move around in the massive bed that Karlie has taken the kids with her. I stand up and move towards the window knowing for certain that she probably has them out and running around the backyard. But as I open the curtain I'm pleasantly surprised that she actually has them swimming in the pool, I can see Liam, Mason and Elijah jumping freely into the pool and I'm thankful that they know how to swim and that we got them lessons when we went to Rhode Island last summer. I can also see that Karlie has Ava and Arabella sitting on the side with their feet in the water. It's cute to see them all in their togs, the girls in particular have the cutest togs on, they're ballerinas and its adorable and I realise that today on LIVE TV I'm going to have to ensure that I can pick my own children out of random kids and that scares me, but we're only guessing that's what will happen.
As we spend the morning getting ready and then pile into the SUV to drive to Ellen's studio where she greets the kids like long lost friends and hugs Karlie and I tight. Within two hours I'm sitting on stage talking about my latest album, Grace Period. Which discusses how I've managed to raise a family while staying in the limelight, and the answer is that Karlie honestly makes it all easier which is why when she joins me on stage it makes me smile and our shared kiss makes the crowd burst out into laughter and cheers but as we sit and chat I get more nervous. "So I'm guessing that you're wondering why we made you two bring your children with you today?" I nod at Ellen and she smiles, "Well tell us all your kids names and how old they are," I smile as Karlie looks at me and lets me talk. "Okay, so Liam is our eldest and he's eight, Mason has just turned seven, Elijah is six, Ava is four and has just started kindergarten and Arabella is the baby of the family and now she's three." Ellen nods and says, "Well we've brought in more moms today and we're going to blind fold all your kids and we're going to see how well your kids know you." I gasp and Karlie laughs and says,
"well good luck babe..."
It takes a few minutes for Ellen to sort things out and me to line up with five other people from the audience. One by one, each of my children are led out by Karlie and kissed before they walk a few steps and walk along the line touching all of our faces or our hands. I was shocked at how easy the girls located me, Arabella touched my face with her hands and then launched at me, then Eva felt for my engagement ring and wedding ring. But the boys were different as Liam and Mason knew it was me based on what I was wearing because it was a buttoned tunic and then Elijah almost went to the woman next to me, but then he came back, whipped off his blindfold and then says, "just kidding mom. I love you." Which makes the audience aww and then all my kids rush on stage and crowd me which makes me feel so special and loved and then Ellen says goodbye to everyone as we make our way offstage and get ready to go home.
