Chapter 37 | father-son talk

Reader POV

The village was celebrating our return, and all was well but I can't escape the feeling I'm being watched.

We are currently being painted, the haddock family and me for some reason, I think it's because I bought Hiccup back.

We had to hold a pose to be painted so Hiccup decided to hug me from behind.

While his parents were more professional looking and just standing next to each other behind us.

But its hard to hold a smile when you feel like your being watched.

I watched the screen taking down notes of every action the young presumed couple did.

I have (y/n)s father watching with an expressionless face.

"Hiccup that tickles" the young girl said trying to hold her position.

"Sorry milady" Hiccup laughed.

With that the young boy kissed his girlfriends forehead.

"Take me to Berk" (y/n)s father said.

Reader POV.

After our painting had been finished, I went to explore the island with Hiccup and have some couple time.

We we're still formally dressed from the painting but we didn't care.

I had a white dress that went to my knees and no shoes while Hiccup had a green shirt and his chest armour.

Hiccup pulled me to a large grassy field and spun me around.

"I love you" he said.

"I love you so much" I said.

We fell back onto the grass.

"So I overheard my dad talking last night" Hiccup said.

"And?"

"He was talking about us"

"Us?"

"He reckons you're the one whatever that means"

"Well I never thought the chief would ship me with his son" I laughed.

"Wanna have a dragon race tomorrow?" Hiccup asked.

"Hell yeah!" I exclaimed.

We got up and walked to the academy where we saw (d/n) and Toothless teaching lightstrike and starshock to fly.

"AWWW" I exclaimed.

Lightstrike was doing quite well, but starshock still has that tail fin issue that I didn't get at all.

Suddenly her tail glowed blue and she took off inti the air.

"What in the?" Hiccup said.

"How in the?" I added.

"Is she magic?" Hiccup asked.

"Don't ask me" I said.

We left them to their business and turned to the gang who were already there.

"Who's up for a dragon race tomorrow?" I said.

The gang erupted in cheers.

"I'm taking that as a yes" I said.

Suddenly it started to rain, so we took cover in an empty dragon pen.

It got quite rough outside so we lit a fire to stay warm and leaned up against our dragons.

Toothless and (d/n) were napping next to each other with their tails intertwined together and their children in their paws.

Hiccup and I leaned up against Toothless under a spare blanket.

My eyes were closed and I was drifting to sleep while Hiccup played with my hair.

I heard a door open then close.

"Son, a word"

"Sorry dad, I can't move"

"We can" Astrid said.

I heard footsteps and a door close.

"Son, one day you'll be chief, and well, you'll need a wife"

I froze.

"Dad I'm 16" Hiccup stated.

"I know, I'm just saying don't go into any crazy phases ok?"

"Um, ok?"

They think I'm asleep obviously.

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Well have you had a girlfriend before?"

"No..." Hiccup said sheepishly.

"Exactly"

I felt Hiccups arms tighten around me.

"Well we're having a dragon race tomorrow and..."

"Yes?"

"Please don't embarrass me" Hiccup said quietly.

"What? I would never"

"Sure"

"Be back soon ok"

"Ok"

The door closed.

"That was awkward" Hiccup told himself.

YEAH IT WAS AWKWARD I HEARD EVERYTHING.

I decided to not make matters worse and stay quiet.

That was until a crash of thunder came.

I jumped awake and cuddled up to Hiccup.
