Chapter 81

A mouse walked in front of me, nearly touching my shoes. Spider webs filled the ceiling. Dust were scattered on the floor where I was sitting.

So this is what it feels like to live in a cell? This is what it feels like to be a prisoner in Citadel.

Niyakap ko ang aking sarili na para bang maproprotektahan ako nito sa nakakadiring lugar na to. Nakasandal ako sa magaspang na pader.

Execution. I shook my head, trying to erase that word in my mind. Execution.

I knew I would not wait too long before they place me out of this disgusting place, towards my death. Marami na akong nakitang tauhan ng Safronov na kinulong muna sa Citadel bago patayin sa nakatakdang araw. Akala ko dati ay maganda ang patakaran na ito. Of course, by doing this, people of our agency would be afraid to betray Safronov. Pero kapag sa'yo na pala ito ginagawa ay mahirap. Sobrang hirap.

Buong buhay ko ay pinaglingkuran ko ang Safronov. Hindi ko alam na mauuwi lang sa ganito ang wakas. Ang sakit isipan na ito lang pala ang ending na matagal ko nang hinihintay.

Walang bintana ang aking kulungan pero alam kong madaling araw na. Sinandal ko ang gilid ng aking ulo sa magaspang na pader at pumikit.

Maybe if I knew that everything would end up like this.. I would still do what I did. I would not change even a single action. I would still continue my forbidden love for my Romeo. I would save him even if it meant treachery.

"I love you Rad." I whispered in the darkness. "I love you so much."

I woke up because of the small noises disturbing my sleep. I slowly opened my eyes to see where the noises came from. Turning my head, I saw the two mice that were flirting at the corner of my cell.

Ngayon ko lang din napansin ang mga mumunting butas sa pader kaya pumapasok doon ang sinag ng araw. Ang dalawang pader naman sa gilid ay may maliit din na butas na hugis parihaba. Iyon ay mga maliit na binatana sa katabi nitong selda. Kasing laki lang iyon ng aking palad.

Tumayo ako at sumilip sa maliit na butas sa kaliwang pader. Tinanggal na nila ang posas sa aking mga kamay.

Nagulat ako nang makita doon ang pamilyar na babae. Magulo ang kaniyang buhok at nakatingin sa akin nang may malokong ngiti. Nakaupo siya at nakasandal doon sa kabilang pader. Kinakagat niya ang sleeve ng kaniyang damit. Isang bagay na ginagawa lang ng mga matatandang baliw.

"Good to see you here, little agent." She chuckled.

"Not so good, Faith Bautista."

"Don't tell me I didn't warn you." I knew she already heard what I've done. Rumors easily spread in the palace.

"You did." I paused, thinking that this would be the last time I would talk to her. "Thank you for everything, Faith."

Tinagilid niya ang kaniyang ulo na para bang nagtataka sa sinabi ko. "You talked like we would never meet again. We have a lifetime to be together here in Citadel, little agent. Ain't that fun?"

Muli siyang tumawa nang nakakaloko ngunit natahimik siya nang muli akong magsalita.

"I am not sentenced to reclusion perpetua, Faith Bautista." I paused. My voice was starting to crack. "I.. I would.. be executed."

"W-when?"

"Tomorrow morning."

She chewed her hair, her eyes becoming watery. "Are you crazy, Eve?"

Bulong lang niya iyon pero narinig ko pa rin. "I..I deserve to die. I failed the queen. I failed the Safronov. I need to di—"

"YOU DON'T DESERVE TO DIE!" Hindi ko namalayang nakatayo na pala si Faith Bautista at naglakad siya patungo sa akin. "I promised Nyah I would protect you! You shall not die! We must stop your execution! We must think of a plan!"
