Cassidy's P.O.V.
"He's okay?"
"He's fine. He just needs to rest his body." Sehrem answered.
"Thank god. What was wrong?"
"River hasn't done that in years. Because of that, his body isn't as used to it as it once was. He pushed himself too far. It unleashed beyond his control but luckily he didn't let all of it out. If he had, you and I might not be standing here right now. He just overwhelmed himself. Any more of it could have killed him. He'll be fine though."
"So it gets worse than just blowing up cars?" I asked.
"Oh much worse. He could've easily blown up every house within a two mile radius if he wanted to. 10 years ago he could've done it within a 10 mile radius."
"The kids didn't see it did they?"
"No they were all inside. Riley, however, saw it."
"Oh great." I sarcastically replied. "Can I see River?"
"Sure. Just walk right in."
We were at the rift in Marseilles and we'd been there for about an hour.
Cato was flying in from the states so we had to wait until he got here before we could leave.
I walked into the room River was in and saw him sitting on the hospital bed.
The rift literally had its own little medical department with all kinds of legit hospital equipment.
"Aren't you supposed to be laying down?" I asked as I sat in the chair across from the bed.
He didn't answer. Instead he just kept staring at me with a blank expression.
"Helloooo..." I said.
Still no answer.
"Are you gonna say anything or just gonna keep staring at me?"
"When I saw you run in front of those cars..." He began. "I lost all sense of rationality. I didn't care about exposing my powers, I didn't even think about how much damage it could do to me. Or the fact that it could kill me. The only thing on my mind at that moment was not letting you die. I didn't care about what would happen to me..... Why would you do something so stupid Cassidy?"
Annnnd there was the guilt.
"I just wanted to see if you cared..."
"Of course I care. But you wouldn't have been able to see that if you were dead. You only did that to make me feel guilty. And congratulations it worked, I feel like I almost got you killed."
"I didn't do it to make you feel guilty. I told you why I did it. River you dont know how much this hurts. You keep pretending like I just dont exist and its driving me crazy."
"No, I know exactly how much it hurts. I almost lost you. Killing yourself isn't gonna answer whether I care about you or not. All its gonna do is haunt me for the rest of my life. What makes you think I can deal with that?"
"I didn't think it would matter to you..."
"Why wouldn't it? Cass you know I still love you. No matter what I say or how many times I say that I dont, you know deep down that I do and that I always will."
"Then why did you say all of those things a while back?"
"Because I see things. They're sort of like visions. And they always come true."
"You can see into the future?"
"Only a certain part of the future..."
"Which is?"
"I can see people's deaths. I can only see how they die but I can't see when. And a few months ago I saw how you died and it was because of me. You followed ne somewhere that you weren't supposed to and I killed you while in the midst of a fight with someone else. That's why I said those things, so that you'd stay away from me."
"You couldn't have talked to me about this first?"
"No because I know how stubborn you are."
Well he wasn't wrong.
"So you've already told me why you've been acting like this lately and you can't keep doing it because I'm gonna know that you're just pretending..... What now?"
He turned his gaze away from me and sighed.
"Now you've still gotta try to move on."
"What? Why?"
"Its safer."
"I don't care whats safer. Shouldn't you let me make my own decision? I should have a say in this."
"You're right. But your decision is gonna be based off of love.... Just like mine is."
"Then our decision will be the same won't it?"
"No. You're gonna say you wanna be with me because you love me. Then I'm gonna say you have to forget about me because I love you."
"I'm not moving on...."
"Just try Cassidy. What about Stormy?"
"There's nothing serious going on between us its just a fling."
"It could be serious if you wanted it to be."
"We promised eachother we wouldn't catch feelings."
"I think its too late for him."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because he likes you. I've known Stormy for years. And I know when he's really into a girl. You kinda like him too. You're just in denial."
"How would you know that?"
"Because I know you. And the only reason why you're in denial is because you feel as though it'd be disrespectful to Tommy."
"It would."
"Not if he really cared about you. The only thing I want more than to be with you is for you to be happy. I know that's what Tommy would want too."
"Even if I dated Stormy it wouldn't last."
"Why not?"
"Because he's not you. And you're the only person I want. You say you want me to be happy but I won't be unless I have you."
"Actually, I lied. There's one thing that I want more than for you to be happy."
"Whats that?"
"For you to be safe. As long as we're together you won't be. I'm sorry Cassidy but I'm not changing my mind about this."
Why did he have to be so perfect yet so complicated....
"Can I kiss you?" I asked nervously.
He chuckled and that smirk that I loved so much appeared.
"No because I might just change my mind."
